    Notice concerning our Moderation Staff

We have noticed several comments/questions in the last few months concerning how we have moved our moderation team to being completely anonymous. We have replied to those people individually, but we feel that perhaps it deserves a more open explanation.

In the past, we were public about who our moderators were. They had a clear label under their usernames so that everyone would know who to contact if needed. For a long time we thought it was a good way to go. Our moderators have always been members just like the rest of you.The only difference is they have access to hidden features that allow them to manage our forum. Our moderators love the forum as much as everyone else, and they enjoy posting on the forum. They volunteer time, from their own personal lives, to help keep things running smoothly and family friendly. We have always appreciated each and every moderator that has volunteered over that past 10 years.

On the flip side of that, being publicly recognized left our moderators vulnerable to a few rather unpleasant experiences. Experiences that led to them no longer wanting to participate on the open forum. The hardest part of being a Moderator is having to enforce the guidelines of the forum. Most of the time, our members are understanding of why things have been removed or edited, but at times it can be challenging. In the past, our Moderators have been on the receiving end of foul language, rude insults, and on one occasion a threat of violence against the Moderator and his family. We simply could not allow that to continue. We decided we need to change how we operate for the sake of our moderators. We want them to be able to enjoy the forum without worry. We don't want them exposed to the unfortunate experiences that past moderators had to deal with. Since the change, we have noticed a vast improvement with general mood of the forum and the overall interactions our moderators privately have with members. We have seen a welcomed decline in negative interactions since we changed to an anonymous moderation team.

Our current and future moderators will remain anonymous for their own safety. Our Directors will stay publicly recognized, and everyone is welcome to contact Directors through PM. You can also email us using the "contact us" button at the bottom right of the forum. Our Moderators do not receive emails from that button. The Moderators can be reached by using the "report post" button, or by sending a PM to "Forum Moderators".

We appreciate your understanding and patience with the change to this new system!

We are always looking for members to help on the moderation team. Feel free to contact me, or any of the NEFGA staff, if you would like to volunteer some of your time as a moderator on our forum.

I know it is not easy, what any of you Directors or Moderators do, either one. Thank you and keep up the good work!
