Question: Box to cover portable generator

Needing to build a box to cover a portable generator, medium sized unit. Never done this before. Was thinking of using a 2x4 frame, lined inside with 5/8" CDX plywood, then covering that with 1" Polyiso foil faced foam sheeting. Will caulk the seams, leave one end at least half open for air, and cut a hole where the exhaust would meet the inside.

What's the purpose of the box? Weather protection or noise reduction?

I'm thinking eave vent covers or something similar would work for the intake intstead of having it "open". Perhaps a short piece of "b vent" pipe to direct nearly all of the exhaust out of the cover??? You would have to check it out to make sure the "b vent" doesn't get too hot, but I think it would be okay. You should be able to put your polyiso liner right up against the 'b vent' for better coverage.

interesting. Yes what is the purpose? I just got one for hunting camp. Should I be protecting it from all elements? Good luck.
