    Forest Roads Re-Open

National Forest roads in northwest Neb. reopen after summer fires

    The Associated Press
CHADRON, Neb. — Many roads closed by two summer fires in the Nebraska National Forest near Chadron have reopened.

Pine Ridge District Ranger Charlie Marsh said the roads had been closed to the public for safety reasons.

Access was limited because of snags on the roads and the threat of falling limbs.

Fire rehabilitation work crews cut down some hazardous trees and limbs along roads, and the wind knocked down others, Marsh said.

Marsh said the Forest Service was welcoming visitors who want to get out to the woods or see the effects of the fires.

Not all roads that were closed have been reopened.

Thanks for the heads up on that. I really wish I could see the devastation out there. I just elk hunted that land 2 years ago and really cant believe it yet that its been burned down. I read somewhere that they say it may have burned so hot that some of the trees will not come back.

One thing is that most of those trees were Ponderosa Pines and they need fire to help open the casing that holds in the seed.
