    started a topic Carcass counting.

    Carcass counting.

If deer die off from CWD shouldn't the shed hunters be finding their remains. It would be interesting to see if they are being found. Should be a s high as 30% in the NW.

John- I have witnessed a couple of "die-offs" in NW Nebraska. Devastating losses but I would be hard put to place a number or percentage of loss not out of thin air. CWD had nothing to do with them. The culprits were tiny insects called midges.

You know you are worrying way too much about CWD. If it scares you that much why don't you just stay where you're at and don't come back here. Just go out and hunt and stop worrying about what may or may not kill you because stepping out of your house in the morning you could die just as easily, geezus.

How do you tell the difference between CWD die off, winter stress/starvation and predation kills? Just finding a dead deer doesn’t equate to CWD die off. Could there be some?, sure, but unless you’re going to get ever deer you find dead tested how will you know if it had it? They say the prions can exist for many years outside the body, can you even test for it reliably after they have been dead for a while? You need the extract the lymph nodes to do the test and that’s hard to do if they are rotten, eaten or decomposing. Sounds like fanning the flames a bit.
