Thinking about buying a cheaper turkey fryer. One that holds about 30 QTS.
Any recommendations on what the best way is to fry a turkey??? Also, if there are other recipes, I'd sure love to fry some fresh fish in there. I've had fried walleye, catfish, and even spoonbill and it was all very, very, very, tasty. I'd like to try frying a turkey this year for thanksgiving, so any recipes/advice would be appreciated!!!!
Thanks!

Injections do wonders...check out scheels and BPS for some fryer seasonings, personally I like the cajun brand that BPS carries.

Thanks for the advice. Do you have any recommendations on how long to put the turkey in?? I Don't want to burn it or over cook it. I'm sure there are recipes on the internet somewhere....but if you have cooking times, that'd be great!!!

I don't...I trust my father when it comes to the fryer and even with him I stay well away. I will ask him though and see what he recommends.

Before you start cooking, put the bird in the pot and fill with water enough to cover the bird. Take the bird out and mark the water line. Drain the pot and dry it as well as the bird (lots of paper towels, oil and water don't mix) Inject with Creole butter (my favorite) and creol seasoning inside and out fill with oil to that mark you made, heat oil to 375 (I think) . With a gloved hand SLOWLY lower bird into oil, it's gonna pop ALOT cook for 3.5 min per pound of bird. A 12lb bird should take 42-45minutes.

Most cookers will have directions on them as well as on the oil if you buy the 4.5 gal box (make sure to buy the 4.5gal box it's alot cheaper than a bunch of .5 gallon jugs)

Personally I don't care if I ever have a roasted turkey again , fried is way better

This is the main reason why I want to do it...I've seen pictures and have heard that you'll never go back to oven baked or anything else...that fried is the absolute best turkey...that it's moist in the middle as well. I'm going to buy one of those big things of oil from BPS. I'd think that should last me a while, hopefully. Also, I need to buy a fryer, will probably get the one from BPS that is on sale for 29.99, normally 49.99. Unless, 30 qts. is too small???

Justin-

I bought my dad the BPS kind and it works perfect, if you don't get the one with the spout attached to drain the oil, then get an oil pump so you can save your oil after you're done. According to my father, all he does is wait for the temp of the middle of the breast to get 170 degrees and he knows it is done.

What Fish On said sounds delecious!

J.T. I'm hungry!!!

It is so easy to do that, like others have said, you won't want to roast ever again. It's ready in 40-50 minutes and always comes out looking golden brown, like it should be in a commercial.

I use the instructions that come on the package of the 5 gal (maybe it is 4.5, not sure). It says 3 minutes per lb plus 5 minutes at 350 degrees.

A couple notes to remember;

1) Make sure that if it spills/runs over, it will run away from the house, down the driveway or in a safe direction.

2) make sure the bird is dry

3) Try and keep it out of the wind. It is amazing how much wind will drop the tempature.

4) never do it in your garage.

you won't be disapointed when you do it.

I always cut the wings off as well. I put the breast/legs in. Then I put in the wings, they cook alot faster than the rest of the bird, and gives me a snack while drinking beer, er I mean finishing the rest of the bird.

Default fryer

I bought a fryer, 30qt for 79.00 with a 20.00 rebate that is all electric with timer and temp control. It also has a drain plug on the bottom. It can also boil water for sweetcorn, dumplin's. It will also steam crab legs, and shrimp. I run a constant 375 and right at 4min/lb. I would not go back to the propane fryer. the electric version is worry free and very consistant.

walleyesfairlanes,
Where did you get your fryer? I saw one I liked, Masterbuilt, and was similar to that at Cabela's for $150; then saw the same one for $99 elsewhere.
