Default Deer Bacon. THE BEST!!!

I have been reading over the past few months about making Deer Bacon. I recently felt I was ready to make it. I had got a small deer and was gonna make the bacon. I just kept having other things to do. I eventually took it in to be processed. WOW!!! Sticker shock. Total was about $220.00 . The deer had approx. 35 lbs of meat. They mixed it with 35 lbs. of pork. So total 70 lbs. It was processed in 4 weeks. It comes pre-cooked/smoked and vacuum packed. It compares somewhat to Sizzle Lean. It is the BEST!!. I'm sure I could make it myself next year. There are several site the explain the process of making it. It's just a great change after the same burger and steaks for so long. I just slice some off and toss it in a pan to heat. The put i on some bread...or not. Any one else had any???

Default Deer Bacon

OH YA!!! I had some made this year. It is a little pricey, but well worth it. The bacon I had made is also similar to sizzlean. My kids can't get enough of it. Throw some on a plate and pop it in the microwave. Makes for some fine eatin. I had mine made at the Wahoo Locker. I also had some summer sauage made there. Some of the best I've ever had.

It's not Deer Bacon, but give this a try.

5 lbs of ground venison and 1 lb ground bacon. Mix/ ground together, form into patties, place on your grill, and get ready for a heck of a burger.

I had some made. Not only was it expenisive but it wasn't that great. I think it worked out to be $3.50/lb. I will stick to pork for that price. It tastes better and you can catch it on sale for less!

Default Deer Bacon

I have made ground deer bacon for years. The ingredients are few.
The meats consist of 50% each venison and pork. This is an excellent recipe. At this time I will not post the recipe, but would be open to any questions.

You can make it yourself.. I did 40 pounds for under 30 bucks total!

Go to Hobart's 109th and Harrison.. Frisco Spices.. they will give you the recipe and the spices..

the key is using hog jowels... It is so simple to make and yummy!

If you try it or want to, drop me a note and I can give you some pointers..

I learned how last December.. They are now a sponsor of my Outdoor Show because I hounded them so much.. LOL

Seriously, give them a try. I did it without a smoker too.

Is it an ancient Chinese secret or something?

I know a guy that makes his own deer bacon. I had never heard of it until about two years ago. The stuff I had was also similar to "sizzlelean". It was really good stuff! I tell myself that it's better for me than regular bacon...not sure if it is or not but I like to think so.

Hmmm lets see. I guess the reason I like deer as much as I do is because its an extremely healthy red meat low in fat, no antibiotics, and no growth hormones, and it tastes great just the the way it is. Don't get me wrong I still like a deer slim jim once in a while or a piece of jerky but IMHO deer is great "al naturale". With most of that processed deer meat one can't even taste the deer meat because of all the pork and beef tallow added along with all the spices, why go through the time, price and trouble you might as well go to the store and buy pork and beef products. Just take a back strap cut it about 1 inch thick sprinkle some garlic salt and pepper on it and fire up the barby.

Just a lot better tasting and, I believe a lot healthier. Also you can be proud to say you made it yourself.

Somewhat healthier but not all that heathly once you start adding pork trim. Also how can it be bacon if it is not smoked?!?! Sounds basically like processed deer jerkey with a different spice and not as dry.
