Doesn't look good.
Maurice Purify was cited for DWI after being stopped by the State Patrol at 12:25 a.m. Friday at North 1st Street and Cornhusker Highway, according to Deb Collins, spokeswoman for the Nebraska State Patrol. Reached late Friday morning, the 21-year-old Purify said he hadn't spoken with Nebraska coach Bill Callahan about his latest arrest. Asked if he expects to remain a member of the team, Purify said, "I hope so." He declined further comment. Purify was arrested May 5 on suspicion of two counts of assault, trespassing, failure to comply and resisting arrest. The charges stemmed from an alleged altercation at a downtown Lincoln tavern. Purify's attorney, Jon Braaten of Lincoln, said Purify had been offered pretrial diversion for the May 5 incident and was in the process of deciding whether to sign up. Braaten said he was unsure how Purify's latest arrest might affect matters. "It'll be something that needs to be put into consideration," Braaten said. |

I just have to say, mostly tongue-in-cheek: why is it that the ones who get in trouble with the law, or at least the ones we hear about that get in trouble with the law, are the best players? None of them should be doing things that jeopardize the team, but if any of them are going to, why can't it be the 4th and 5th stringers?

The loss of Purify will hurt, simply because his size and his leaping ability make him the prototypical wideout. That being said, he's not all that good of a reciever. His hands aren't great, and he's not overly fast. As much as I don't like the 'Skers, I have to admit that they've got a ton of talent coming up, and I definately think you will all be impressed by some of the fellas who are gonna be competing for his spot.

Purify is about as fast as dwayne jarret...DJ is not that fast either runs a 4.6 40 i think. But with big bodied recievers they just need to know how to use their body to sheild away the defender. Mo proved that in the aTm game, and also when he catches the ball he is a hard man to bring down. He showed that in the UT game.
This will hurt, but i do like that we have will henry who will be a redshirt freshman, was kellers favorite target on the practice squad. He is also 6-5 (big bodied) and runs a 4.35 40 (FAST). Purifys experience is what will hurt, but im not too worried. one of our many tallented recievers, including niles paul, and meno holt will step up.

Oh, if any QB in recent Nebraska history can get a ball to a wideout, it's gonna be Sam Keller. Don't you worry about that.

Personally,I think college athletes should have a standard set by the school. Get convicted of anything over that, gone(from the sport) with no questions asked.Anything under, then there should be a scale of punishment leading up to being kicked off the team.Plus,if on scholarship, they should have to repay any amount used to that point.

way to go Mo.
I actually met him that night at Sun Valley lanes an hour or so before he got pulled over. I cant believe he did this. It will hurt to lose him thats for sure but like you guys have said we have some very talented young recievers. I wouldnt expect an incoming freshman like Paul to have an impact this year though. You've got to remember the type of offense we have now. -Drew |
