Default Kentucky Derby!!!!

So I know a few people on here enjoy the fun at the track, betting the horses, handicapping all week long... but does anyone follow the horses enough to have an predictions for the Kentucky Derby on May 5th?? I like a few horses... Scat Daddy, Street Sense, Notional... Great Hunter... lots of beautiful horses running.

Myself and a few other's have been following them each week, to try and get an idea on who to bet.

Adammd and myself, along with the chicks are heading out to Kentucky for the Derby this year... doing some camping while out there. Should be a lot of fun, I'm looking forward to this trip - I'll will be just one soul in the sea of 80,000 people!!!

Just thought there should be a thread about Horses... especially with the first of the triple crown, just about 23 days away!!

RIDE!!

I'm heading there tomorrow. I'll see if I can pick up the 'buzz' on who's hot. I don't really follow the actual horse racing, but I've got some pretty cool pictures from last year's Derby, which I missed (jealous of my friends who went).

This year I had to decide between the Derby in May, or fly-fishing the Smoky Mountains in April, and Montana in May. It was a no-brainer for a certified trout bum.

You'll have a great time though, guaranteed. Just make sure to keep those women under control, from what I've heard and seen the infield is akin to Mardis Gras.

Post pictures if you go.
Don't bother with pictures of horses. I've seen horses.

Nice!! I will be sure the digital camera is fully charged before we roll out there. Posting pics is not a problem... we'll have to make sure they follow forum guidelines of course.

Big races this weekend - Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park, than the Blue Grass is also running this weekend, at Keeneland. The Blue Grass will be aired on ESPN Saturday at like 4pm CST... I believe.

My father-in-law has been going down to the Derby for years. He has family in the horse racing industry. His nieces husband trains horses and I actually have the silver platter from a horse that he trained that won a race at Churchill Downs on Derby Day in 2005. He has pictures of his grand nephew and celebrities who attend the race. Peyton Manning and Tom Brady and a couple of country music artists are the only "stars" that I recognize from the photos.

I was at the races at Keeneland this weekend. The weather wasn't great, but it was a great time. I saw myself on TV a couple times next the winner's circle near the finish line. Hopefully a couple key people from Omaha didn't see me.

All I have to say is, make sure to get the bourbon bread pudding. And those horses are absolute tanks! Man, they can move. Flying out of Lexington was kind of cool. The whole town is surrounded by scores upon scores of horse farms/ranches.

Yeah man, you can hug a horse!!

I swear to goodness that one time, years ago, I was a this party thing, and they brought in Gate Dancer and his trainer, (Jack ???), I mean, they brought this horse right into the ballroom down at AKSARBEN.
He really, really liked Cheetos (I bet his handlers didn't know that!!) but wasn't so much on the smoked Salmon. He also slurped up a coke.
Nice horse.

No dirk, I did not hug him. That would have been weird!!

OK, so no great photo's that would get me banned from the forum, but a ton of other photo's. Here are just a few from the inside.

Raining when we showed up day 1

Dolo and I were quick to start scoring any sort of free swag we could find. This was early, but in the end I had about 15 cans (minus the several I went though), 2 zippos, 2 shirts, and several koozies.

Rain shut off after the first couple races, but then right before the last race it got ugly. Here is a pic of the skys just before they let loose.

Derby day!!!! Less nomadic (minus the constant trips to the $9 julips or $6 draws), we set up shop here.

Just prior to the start of the race

Hail to the champ

Good question Pike Hunter. So are those brownies some the free swag you guys scored?

Skoal Dry I think is still only available in two states, but the theme is no spit (thats the dry part!!). However, if your mouth generates saliva, then you either spit or take it down. From my experience, they still generate some, but not as much and it isn't bad, granted the flavors all are more candy-ish.

Not sure the product will take off. Kind of like the old flavor packs that nobody liked. Plus, a tobacco company telling you to go ahead and swallow the juice, lawsuits coming soon.

As for the brownies, those were not free, unfortunately.

I had no idea the Derby was such a party. And hey, they sell homemade brownies too. That's great.

Nice pictures...look similar to some I saw from last year (minus a few scattered topless individuals).
