Default Suh for the Heisman!

From the ESPN.com site

Quote:
I'm here in Oxford, Miss., for tomorrow's Alabama Crimson Tide versus Mississippi Rebels tilt (3:30 p.m. ET on CBS) and I'm opening up the mailbag.
From Dennis in Omaha: How awesome was [Ndamukong] Suh [on Thursday] night?!?! Is it time to let a big man in the Heisman race?

It might be. Suh had six tackles, a sack, a forced fumble and an amazing INT; it had to wow anyone who was watching the game. Thing is, that's basically the norm for this guy. Just ask Va. Tech, who had fits with him. (How many times do you hear of a defensive LINEMAN with four passes broken up in a game?)
My colleague Mel Kiper has him in the Top 5 on his 2010 Big Board.
Suh is virtually unblockable and he does things no other DT can. He leads his team in tackles, again. That's shocking. That simply doesn't happen these days. You might as well see a 2,500-yard rusher. Last season, he was the first DT to lead Nebraska in tackles in 35 years. To have this kind of production again -- after knowing how he is the focal point of a rival's game plan -- is enough to get him on the Heisman radar.
In the offseason, I wrote about Suh; he really credits his soccer background (he started playing at age 3) for his uncanny footwork. He is such an intriguing character, both on and off the field. I think voters are going to really want to hear more about him. I had him on my 10 best players who can't win the Heisman in April, but who knows? Maybe he can get in the race. I know this -- he'll be in my top five this week because I doubt there are five better players in college football.
Of course, as is the case with the other Heisman upstarts (Tony Pike, Case Keenum, Jimmy Clausen, Jacory Harris, A.J. Green), he is going to need the frontrunners -- Colt McCoy and Tim Tebow -- to slip, but you never know what can happen.
The one big thing that'll hurt his case (besides obviously being a D-lineman) is that NU doesn't get to play Texas in the regular season. That spotlight game against a favorite like McCoy would be huge. Still, if Suh and the Huskers can show that Nebraska is all the way back, he can -- at the very least -- get invited to New York, given how much injuries have hindered some touted Heisman hopefuls.
Woodson did it, beat out Peyton Manning.....

Fair point.

Odds are long...and will continue to be until the past heisman voters (made up predominantly of QB's and RB's: like they'll vote for a defensive player - Woodson got in due to his offensive production - much less a down lineman...)

the man is as deserving as anyone at this stage of the season. Might come down to whether or not he gets to play against Colt McCoy...or Tebow...(a much longer odds deal and then, IF that happened, it'd be after the voting was 'in')...

I think the fact that NU is still low on the national radar hurts his chances. If he played for teams like USC, Florida, Texas etc he might have a better shot, but still a long shot. (Especially with college football's lord and savior still suiting up for Florida.)

Heisman Vote 2009 - presented by Nissan

Wow..... I suspect Husker Nation (and I wouldn't be at all suh-prised, a computer program) at work here, but Suh is no longer a write in... In fact, he has 8% more votes than Tebow.

and the funny thing is, he has all those votes since yesterday. Last time I checked he was over 20,000 and yesterday at this time he had like 3,000. I am guessing I have voted 200 times since yesterday and I know a lot of people who have done the same!

SI and ESPN College game day are doing pieces on Suh for the upcoming week. Atleast he and the university are getting some national coverage again!

GBR!

Currently, Suh's got 26% of the votes on ESPN, followed by Tebow at 11%. Husker fans and college football fans that pay attention to college football are making a serious push here, despite of how unlikely it may be. Suh for Heisman!

still early (only half time)...but Suh seems to be playing out of character...a couple of cheap shots (none, by the way, that have drawn flags...)

Actually, he was called for a hands to the face on the QB, but you're right. He seems to be frustrated and who can blame him? So am I. But he's better than that and I'm sure he'll get it together in the second half. Let's hope.

that was a hard play...and not at all an intentional issue...probably the correct call...but not at all in line with being called a cheap shot.

I do think Suh's a pretty good kid...and the pressure might be weighing heavier than expected...
