I wish I could say something, but my Twins don't stand too much of a chance against the best team money can buy. My hope is that they don't get swept. Anything more than that (especially after last night's awesome play-in game) is gravy.

I guess I shouldn't be complaining after the Twins left like 17 men on base and had a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the ninth, but that missed call on the Mauer hit to left in the top of the 11th was an absolute joke. Oh well, I hope the Metrodome has a little magic left in it.

The money arguments get really old. You still have to go out and play the game, which the Twins didn't and won't do. They are toast.

The Mauer call was a joke, but I wouldn't call the strike zone that Ump had all night anything less. The twins still had the bases loaded with no outs and if you can't score a run then...you can't complain. Twins had their chances

Go Yanks! 9 wins away!

Of course the "money" arguements get old for you, your on the right side of it. If you read my post I stated that I felt the Twins had their chances and didn't capitolize (3-1 lead in the 9th, 17 lob) The fact that they left a man on base in EVERY inning was almost as disgusting as the Mauer call. They get the call right and the Twins score at least one, which might have changed the outcome, or not. Either way, their still down 2-0 to the evil empire.

I gotta admit the Yankees make me vomit in my mouth. Now people always say yea but its the Yankees. Such great tradition! Well yea they DID and I have the greatest respect for that. I think after the days of Don Mattingly I lost all respect for the team. It all became money money money and even with that talent they still werent putting it together.

Money in the end is what tore down old Yankee stadium and put a tear in my eye to see it go.

Down with the Spankees. They are ruining baseball.

What big name will they buy this year?

Go Angels and Dodgers!

Really? How do you figure?

Probably one of the most IGNORANT (I know, it's a challenge to pick) comments by the Twins Coach- as well as the announcers of the game was that the following player hit a single which would have scored a run.

Hmmmm. Don't 'spose the PITCHES MADE would have CHANGED? Especially with a runner on third?????

Let's be realistic, here. Odds are the Twins would have run themselves OUT of the inning, anyway. Certainly better odds of that (reference game 3's final example) than the Yanks Pitcher tossing the SAME pitches under different circumstances.

Woulda-coulda-shoulda, hey, coach- he coulda hit a HOME RUN! Knowing that, I'll bet YOU ARE REALLLLLLY PI$$ed, NOW!

Good Grief.

Harold F.

BTW, and I am NOT a Major League Umpire fan as they ALL seem to think they are "above" the game (ref: their strike zone) but it appears from the replay that the Left Fielder's glove may have blocked/hampered the umps view. Of course, the STUPID announcers were too much into themselves and ignored what WE all were watching. So, the Ump made a call to the best of his ability. Clearly, he did NOT see it hit in the field of play, even though it was CLEARLY in the field of play.

The glove as well as the "real time" the ump had to deal with is MY excuse for his bad call.

The money argument may get old, but it's very valid and has indeed ruined baseball in many ways. The money pays for better players. And saying the Twins didn't go out and play the game is also pretty disrespectful to those players.

Yankees payroll = $201,449,189
Twins payroll = $65,299,266

The amount of talent on the Yankees team vs that of the Twins is not very comparable. Yet, the Twins made it pretty darn far.

I agree the game still has to be played, and the Royals' payroll is more than the Twins and the Royals were worse, thus it's not all payroll, but the ability to lure better players to your team with money is huge. Especially when the Yankees dish out more money per year than four teams combined, and more than twice as much as 22 of the teams. A more telling number is that the Yankees median salary is TWICE as much as the second highest median salary. It's a wonder why they don't win it all every year.

Yikes, I guess the shoulda, coulda and wouldas can only be used for Husker football..
I "liken" this to that Penn State game in 82 and the player was "out of bounds or the "K-State game" way back when where the "Crouch" facemask wasn't "called" or the "personal" foul calls against VT last year or the "blown" coverage against VT this year and so on...
Honestly, they put two extra umps out for playoff games just to watch the lines. If his vantage point was blocked, he shoud have went for help to get it right. But now it's a moot point anyway.

Couldn't have said it better myself!
While they played very unTwin like baseball in this series, I would argue that the Twins go out and play the game HARDER than the Yankees everyday, because with the talent and payroll they have, they have to inorder to be successful. They have to run out grounders, bunt, steal a base, hit-and-run, take the extra base and so on to be able to compete with the homegrown players they have. To say they don't go out and play the game is just ignorant.

These "prima-donna's" wouldn't ask for help. I suppose he blocked the Home Plate Ump's view... he was straddling the line.

In MY opinion, it's about time for another Umpire Strike. Assuming the Commish has the 'nads to fire them all...

While on the subject, that little "strike zone" graphic is about as bogus as the Umpires. Nothing like making the bad look WORSE!

Ty, it's my "non-conformance response" to OBG's Grammar Nazi efforts. Although, one will find it RARE that I have a mis-spelled word or improper word (such as they're, there, their...)

It actually began "early" on this site as I received a couple PM's with irate responders that "read" something I clearly didn't say. Well, I guess it wasn't "clear" to them! Emoticons obviously were not enough.

I miss the chuckle I'd get when Roger would make a post with a "quote" included.

George Steinbrenner bought the yankees in 1973 for 10 million dollars. 10 million!!! in 36 years he has turned a team that was once worth 10 million into one that is now worth 1.5 BILLION! The reason? Because he turned the Yankees franchise into the biggest draw and name in sports. Nothing beats them. He turned them into this therfore he should get to spend the money how he sees fit. The yankees spend big money because they make big money. Its not like steinbrenner showed up one day and dropped all this money. He made it!

Instead of sitting around and complaining about the Yankees big pocket books, why don't you guys do something about it and help your own teams out. I am willing to bet you guys cheer for teams whos owners could spend the money on big names, they just don't because instead when they have talent, they cash in on it and ship them to teams (yankees and redsox) who are willing to spend the money. Don't be mad at the Yankees, be mad at your own front office.

Ty..last time I checked, you were a cubs fan. I belive the last time I checked for you, the Cubs were number 7 on the MLB spending list. Far below the yankees but still big spenders compared to the rest and they havn't won a title in 100 plus years. You still have to play the game the right way to win. I also can't wait till the cubs rip down wrigley and build a huge stadium. It is in the future I am sure.

I don't even know why I argue on this any more. The debate will go on until the end of time.

My Yanks are still in this thing and that makes me pretty happy. I am done with this conversation. Maybe I'll come by in a couple weeks.

GO YANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Troy

No team plays harder than the Yanks. You also won't find a more classy team. Ron Gardenhire was right on his comments. You think the yankees don't run out grounders, bunt, steal a base and hit-and-run? That to me is ignorant.

One more while I have time to spare!

Salary caps are supposed to make certain sports have more parity, right?

Over the last 20 years, I see nothing but parity in baseball. Especially from the teams that have won the championship. It is really somone new winning it every year and besides the yanks from 97-2000, there really is no "dynasty" at all.

Detroit was the number 3 spender last year and finished dead last in the central. Tampa Bay was the second lowest spender last year and made the world series. does spending really matter? I say spend it if you got it, but ya still got to play the game the right way. You can have all the talent in the world but if you don't play good ball you arn't going to win.

If the Yanks don't win it this year, I am going to be pissed because I know this team is different from the teams they have fielded in the last 9 years. This team has chemisty.

In sports like the NFL and NBA, who have salary caps, you don't have parity at all. The Patriots have won or been near the super bowl for about the last 8 years. In the NBA, either the Lakers or San Antonio have represented the the western conf. in the NBA finals 9 of the last 10 years. I remind you, they have salary caps in these sports and there is no parity at all.

what are you guys really complaining about when you talk about the yanks big pockets? Just finding something to be mad about cause your team couldn't cut it this year? As in baseball and not the other sports...better luck next year guys, money in the long run doesn't matter! The team that plays the hardest will win it all. The team that has the best chemistry will win it all. Just like every year.

Go yanks!

Troy
