I suppose because of the cold, it was kind of a sloppy game last night. And CC was dealing.

Cliff Lee absolutely owned that lineup last night. Complete domination. I am so impressed by his composure over the course of this season and into his first postseason. Let's go Pedro in game 2!

Mixed bag for me. I picked the Yanks in 6 in our office pool, so that's kinda cool, but the Yanks still won.

I was going to put one a after my post. But I then thought I better not because it might be the name. My third guess was Elston.

I was going to guess Babe, but I didn't want to piss you off.

Will be interesting to see what they do with their OF free agents this year. They have a nice prospect coming up soon in Austin Jackson and I can't imagine them holding onto both Matsui and Damon. Is Swisher signed long term? Also, very curious to see what they do with Hughes and Joba. I think Joba is better served in the pen and I think Hughes has always been overrated as a prospect so he might never quite develop into the starter they had hoped. So it'll be interesting to see what they do with their rotation after CC, AJ, and Pettite.

I wouldn't be surprised if Andy Pettite doesn't retire. Don't be surprised if Joba isn't a starter, along WITH Hughes! While Matsui's knees would keep him at the DH position, Damon's year-end showing may not be enough to get his contract renewed.

I'm not sure stats show Hughes anymore overrated than Joba was as a projected 3rd year starter... so I'm guessing they keep them both and hope for the growth from both!

I'm not sure how many add'l years are on Swisher, but he ain't goin' nowhere! When his contract is coming up, I expect he will be "overpaid" to keep him there.

Just to add to the payroll and pi$$0ff the Yankee Haters!

Damon's still a very good player with a good batting average and speed. His arm is a liability in the OF obviously, but I think they'd benefit from getting at least one more solid year out of him.

Joba showed up out of nowhere, was never a highly touted prospect. Hughes was always a top prospect. However, if you look past the minor league numbers and just look at stuff, it doesn't translate as well. He'll be 'good', but won't be the 'ace' that he was originally projected to be. His stuff could very well keep him in the pen, along with Joba, who doesn't seem to have that sustainability to be a consistently reliable starter.

I sure hope so! I love watching him whiff over and over again.

Remember both Hughes and Joba are young and inexperienced. Joba had very little time in the minors and they have really screwed with him while on the majot league roster. Hughes also went through the minors quickly and he missed most of last year due to injury so he doesn't have a lot of major league time. I remember Catfish Hunter getting his brains beat out and he is in the Hall of Fame. Another example is Zach Greinke. I would always tell people I wish the Yanks would get him and they would laugh because he was losing big time. Well he's figured it out now. Takes time sometimes.

If Damon goes for a short contract, 1 or 2 years, the Yanks will keep him. I think the same with Matsui. Nady should be back next year too. At least I don't think he is a free agent.

I'm talking stuff. Greinke always had stuff. No one ever questioned his stuff, it was the mental side of his game that was preventing him from being as good as everyone thought he could be. Once he figured that out, he realized his potential. Hughes and Joba don't have the ceiling that Greinke has. So many times we look at stats and numbers instead of actual live pitching reports. I haven't personally sat and watched Hughes pitch, not enough to provide a relevant pitching report, but I have read some reports on him and his velocity and pitch arsenal doesn't translate to ace starter in the bigs. And Joba's game is better suited with short outings. The Yanks screwed with him a great deal with those stupid 'Joba rules', but maybe they realized what they had. He doesn't appear to be a pitcher they can consistently get 7+ innings out of on a regular basis, and for a full year.

I forgot about Nady, but I believe he is also a FA.

I think that Joba should stay in the pen. Groom him to take over for Mo when he retires. Just like they did with Mo and Wettland. I think Hughes has the stuff be a good starter. That is if he quits throwing 4 seam fastballs down the middle of the plate.

As far ad Damon and Matsui go on a personal level I hope they show Johnny"I throw like a girl" Damon the door. I have always liked Matsui. Plus if they sign him they get alot of $$$$ from Japanese sponsars and merchandise sales in Japan.

Swisher had a terrible post season but a very solid regular season. They have him locked up through 2010 with an option for 2011.

Neither has a great deal of experience. Neither knows how to pitch, they just throw. I don't think either one of them has a great deal of confidence in themselves and their stuff although Hughes seemed to improve in that catagory. All that being said if they don't learn how to pitch they can have the greatest stuff in the world and not be successful. Maddox didn't have the best stuff but he will be a first ballot Hall of Famer.
