Default Golf Club Length/Lie Question

I recently took up golfing and I'm thinking about getting set up with a set of irons that are fit to my length that I need.

I measured my wrist-floor and it's 38" and according to what I've read, I need +1 golf clubs. Do I need a lie adjustment as well? One website I read said I'd need 2* and another one said I didn't.

Any suggestions? I'd like to get into a golf shop and get custom fitted but being in Chadron that's not really an option.

As a life long and avid golfer, I would say get into a shop, like austads, and get it done that way. Your location does suck but the drive is well worth it I think. Even then, you can try out a lot of different brands and see what kind of shafts and heads would be best suited for your game. They will have everything imaginable in there for you to test and you could probably spend an entire day in there just finding what works best for you. Sounds like fun to me. They can even cut and customize them for you on the spot I believe. Hope this helps!

Where's that ban button...

Just kidding guys. I only never golf because I'm worse at golfing than I am at fishing!

Shame on you, Nerd. You should know better! There are impressionable children who read this Forum. (How do I report a truly depraved post? )

As a "former" PCA Certified Clubmaker, I hope you will consider my recommendations.

You are NOT ready for a "Custom" set of clubs. You SHOULD consider purchasing a (new/used) set of STAINLESS STEEL irons that are perimeter weighted. Replace the grips if the set is used. Your local golf shop at the course in Chadron should be able to help you. If a magnet doesn't stick to the head, don't buy it!

THEN, SPEND THE MONEY ON GOLF LESSONS! You will have your own tendancies and the local Golf Pro will be able to help you with them. A GOOD Golf Pro will NOT try to make you swing like he does. He will help you establish YOUR swing!

If you have a Driver in your bag, get rid of it. No, a $500 Big Mama will NOT help you at this point in your game. One "Big Hit" out of ten doesn't work when on the links. Five out of ten with a 3-wood barely qualifies.

A "mixed" set of irons, especially if some are "blades" is NOT recommended for a new golfer that wants to improve in this "game"!

Proper alignment, grip, stance, "take-away", turn, follow-through ALL are more important tools than the "brand" of club you are using. Learn that, then when you are a consistant bogie golfer, look into the "fine tuning" opportunities of a set of Custom clubs.

Or not. But please let those that DID set their priorities right play through!

Maybe it would help to add that I was a "mechanic" in the golf industry, not an accomplished "player". My "best" 7 handicap was due to lack of playing time. Caused by my love of fishing, and "shop time".

I am a "reformed" person, Holdem, and can honestly say that I have played less golf in the last five years than I have fingers on one hand.

Now come on guys...it can't be that bad. Look at the two words both fishing and golf have in common. The words "length" and "lie."

It seems a bit ironic to me that confessed fly-fishermen look down upon golf...

Hello pot, I got someone for you to meet, IT'S THE KETTLE!

That being said, I love golf, and if it didn't cut into my fishing time, would probably do it more.

Sheesh, 15 years now, and I never knew, that last part was your saving grace.

Harold, all is forgiven.

Be a real man and buy a boat. Then you dont have to fish by yourself.

ohhh I will...just need to graduate (I will in August) and then find a good paying job (may be hard)... but I will for sure have a boat in the next couple years though! I won't fish alone when I get a float tube....The boss has already said that when I get a float tube..she gets one too! do they make doubles? HAHA! jk

Right now I'm looking at some clone golf clubs from The Best in Clone Golf Clubs, Components and Accessories - Diamond Tour Golf. Some of their iron sets are as low as $129.99. I'm finding out that finding tall, left handed golf clubs is quite difficult without breaking the bank. I think clones are the way to go for me, right now especially.

I've talked to several people who use clones and they say they hit just as well as the name-brand clubs.
