It didn't go as planned.. The Bears beat the Rams 42-27, the Rams beat the Colts 19-17, and yet the Colts beat the Bears 29-14.:?

I thought it was a good Super Bowl. Even though I don't like Peyton Manning, I was glad to see Tony Dungy win a Super Bowl. He's a fine gentlemen and besides, he got his start with the Steelers!!

My ideal outcome for this Super Bowl would have been for the Colts to win in on the final drive and Peyton Manning to get hit and put in the hospital as he threw the winning TD pass.
We all have our dreams, don't we?

Prince? Prince rocks, man. Say what you want about Prince. At least he writes his own tunes, can sing and play an ax or two and actually knows how to run a band. Unlike most of the push button, fashion-show pretenders that pass for new artists these days. To pull off that show in the rain like that, he's a pro.

All rock and roll artists down through the years have been attempting to invoke one of two rock and roll icons in some way; Jimi Hendrix or Bob Dylan. There's really no other way to go. All these groups and singers down through the years, they get up on stage and in the back of their psyche, those are, ultimately, the aparitions they are trying to invoke with their performance. There have been few artists over the years that can pull off as many elements of both of those icons as Prince does. When a new rock and roll artist flops and fails, or an old one becomes passe', you can always examine their work, their albums and their stage persona and see clearly where what they are trying to pull off has strayed just a little too far from Dylan or Hendrix. That's a lesson that Prince learned well from the start and never forgets and that's why he'll be around for a long time yet.

I had never really listened to or heard much of Prince's music but I thought the super bowl halftime show was better than many if not most of the commercials.

Agreed, to a point. Michael Jackson was a pop artist. Prince, for whatever else he is, I consider to actually be a rock and roll musician, like Hendrix. (For sure, Prince is a weird, little purple man!!)

It's like comparing Sinatra and Nat King Cole. Lot's more people know and love Sinatra. But Sinatra was not an artist to me. He was a great musical stylist, for sure, but Sinatra was a commercial package and not much more. Nat King Cole was actually an artist who could write music, play instruments and lead a band, like Prince.

You throw Michael Jackson or Sinatra into a room with a piano and a full orchestra and 2 hrs later, everyone will just still be just staring at each other unless there is a third party directing what will happen.

I know I might get struck down for putting Prince and Nat King Cole in the same sentence, but it's a fair comparison, I think.

That's always been where the Beatles have it over the Stones, IMO. The Beatles were 4 fabulous musicians. The Stones are 1 musical genius, plus a couple good rock and rollers in a band fronted by a pop artist. So to me, the Stones always come off as a bit contrived, like last year's Super Bowl halftime show.
