I know this isn't exactly the place to be posting about this, but I am at work and bored and feeling like I need to vent about the team. What are other people's outlook for the season so far...mine is that the o-line needs to grow a pair, lucky should lose his starting job, and our defense needs to play smarter...I have a lot more to say but just seeing what others, who share the same interests as me,opionions are...

First I'd say move this to the sports section. Second,IMO,most Husker fans compare today's team to the teams of years gone past. It's been 2 games this season and ya already want guys gone?? Maybe the O-line isn't that great to begin with and "growing a pair" isn't gonna help. That will come in time. Now,if they are all juniors/seniors,maybe some changes need to take place;I don't really look too in depth at the Huskers or any college team. IMO,ya should just be glad they are winning and hopefully improving each game cause their talents will be tested soon enough.

I think the Huskers are improving and that is all I want to see as a Husker fan. Sometimes its painful but still lightyears ahead of last year. The defense is trying and I believe will get there. The O-line needs time to gel alittle and they will be fine. How you say Lucky should lose his starting job is rediculous. He is the best all around back. There are situations that Helu is a stud at and probably better but all around your nuts if you think that Helu is better( although he is showing signs that he could be a great one)
They just need time. I don't think that we will go undefeated but we will compete. I see us bowling and suprising a few teams. I also think that this last weekend was a case of playing down to our opponent. Other than there QB they stunk. I know I didnt the game would be as close as it was even though the score was ok. Chris

Here is my observations so far. Hopefully they will improve and I will be wrong!!
Offense: 1)Helu seems to be head shoulders above the other backs and should get at least 80% of the snaps. 2)The offensive line is pretty decent at pass blocking but they are absolutely HORRIBLE at run blocking!!! 3)Ganz while playing pretty well does make some real bad choices every now and then on where to throw the ball. I think he will keep improving with this over time though. 4) The receivers over all seem to be playing pretty good ball. 5)I did not like how Watson seemed to try and force the run this last game when it obviously was not working. Doing that is fine when you have a comfortable lead but we did not this last game. Kinda seemed a little like last year to me. ![]() Defense: 1) I thought they played alright the second half but it is PAINFULLY obvious we could be in for some real trouble if they don't improve a lot and fast!! 2) The effort is much much better than last year!! Thank GOD!!! 3)The D-line can not get any consistent pressure on the quarterback on their own. This will be big trouble if it keeps up and we have to blitz all the time. 4) Hopefully all the mental mistakes/ being out of position will disappear with more game time. After all it is a new system for them so it is a learning curve. I think we were all hoping it would be like Oklahoma was when Stoops took over...... lots of talent and horrible coaching before him so it was a quick turnaround. I do not think we have the talent to have a quick turnaround like they did unfortunately. I am hoping and rooting for the best but I think it will be a 7-5/6-6 year. Anything more will be great. Anything less will show just how bad the talent actually is. It will be VERY interesting to see where the team is in 3-4 years. If we can recruit I think we have good coaches this time. |

Halen: if given the chance you would see that Helu is a much better back. Yeah Lucky catches the ball well and runs good in the open field but he goes down WAY too easy and can not make something out of nothing the way Helu can. It seems Helu can catch the ball well also if given the chance.
There is no way Lucky makes that TD run that Helu did!!! |

lucky is a great recieving back, but for the style of running that i thought we were going to be trying this year, more of a power running game, he just isn't the option. Helu hits holes hard and seems to be a better down field runner, he actually breaks tackles and doesn't look like he is trying out for dancing with the stars when he gets the ball. Lucky could be such a great back, but has never lived up to his potential. Watson needs to rethink his scheme for lucky and get him more screens...it's also too bad the Barry Turner is out for the season, he had one hell of a motor, but luckily Pierre Allen stepped up big for us and should fill the position nicely, just hope we can get a medical redshirt for barry so we can see him out there next year...

I disagree for the most part. I think that you are right that lucky doesn't make that td but I have seen enough that shows that lucky is a better all purpose back. Which is what we need in this offense. Right now our run blocking is poor to say the least and Helu is a better downhill runner. If our run blocking can open a few holes then watch out for lucky. He just doesnt create the holes like Helu does.

Just because someone posts what their observations on the team so far are that in NO way is whining.
Just because not everyone has on their big red blinders and think we are going undefeated means they are whining for crying out loud. Instead of 'whining' about what we think how about posting YOUR observations on the team so far??!! |

My two cents:
1. Lucky is a great back 2. The line is playing horrible and DOES need to grow a pair! 3. Too many missed tackles but GREAT effort on D. 4. Ganz is playing like an early Farve "great plays and some horrible decisions" 5. D-line is really good and Pierre Allen is not a step down. 6. D-backs are young but extremely athletic. 7. Offense will not play that bad again! Prediction-8wins + bowl game......NO BLOWOUTS! |

Here is my take.
1. This NU team is a work in progress 2. The o-line is not as good as advertised 3. Andy Christensen will make a nice addition to the o-line 4. There seems to be no continuity with the o-play calling 5. Being forced to be one dimensional, Ganz is playing pretty well 6. NU has not made a commitment to run between the tackles. No dives, no counter traps, no traps. You gotta keep the the D honest and running between the tackles is a way to do that. NU will have their ups and downs this year. But I'm pleased with the new coaching staff, and the improvements I've seen so far |

I love to see some excitment on the sidelines from our coaching staff, it's also nice not hearing the student section calling for Cosgrove's head every game, I think Bo is the right choice and a few years down the road we will be back to where we once were...

I think that even if Bo lets Andy play again(and I think he will) it will be late in the season, IF we even see him.

Lucky was perfect for Callahan's system...in fact what the heck has happened to those beautiful screens that Lucky runs so freaking awesome?
Helu is good, but Lucky isn't bad. A lot of plays it seemed that either the back didn't hit the hole they should have or on others the line didn't pick up the right blocks. We'll see how it goes. I'm hoping for a winning season, a bowl game, and no blowouts where the D allows 76 points. SudDawg

I think the Offense has had a tough time getting in any kind of rhythm and in two games Lucky nor Helu have had enough carries to really distinguish one over the other. I find it kind of funny how one good run puts a player over another. Lots more to that position that running the ball. I would think if NU cant get over 200 yards on NMSU then things might be bad all season for the O line.
