Default Let's talk Husker football!!!

Alright, alright, alright, enuf with the pro stuff, let's get to the serious business of husker football. As a husker news junkie myself, I am a little upset that there isn't much talk in the papers (compared to what it has been in the past 4-5 years). But I actually think I am liking this "lying in the weeds" approach that Bo is putting forth. Frustrating that I can't get my husker fix as well, but still, intriguining.

My collegue's neighbor was down in worlds of fun the otherday (with a husker shirt on) when some big guy walk to him and says "you a nebraska fan? How do you think they will do this year?" The neighbor says "I think 7 would be good, but 6 wins would be fine too." Big tall guy says "We didn't come all this way to win only 7 games this year!" Turns out, Big tall guy ends up being part of the coaching staff (the neighbor wasn't sure who because he didn't get that much into football) but from the discription, sounds like Eckler.

Long story short, I'm stoked for the season!!

I'd be surprised if the Huskers did any better than middle of the pack in the big twelve. Missouri will win the big twelve north.

I think Mizzou has alot of talent but it remains to be seen if their staff can keep it going.

And the Nebraska staff has proven......?
I think NU will finish second or third in the north almost by default. Kansas doesn't avoid Texas and Oklahoma this year plus they have to go to South Florida. Colorado plays West Virginia and Forida State before even starting Big 12 play, Kansas State still has Freeman, but has to replace 12 starters and brought in like 19 or 20 jucos...remember how well that worked out for Bill C.? And Iowa State loses a 4 year starting QB and the last time I checked they were still Iowa St. Plus NU gets Mizzou, Kansas, and Colorado at home this year. If you say NU is probably going to lose to Oklahoma, TT, and Mizzou in Big 12 play, they still have a pretty good shot at 5-3 in conference.

Since this is the NU staff's first season I guess they don't really have anything to live up to right now other than expectations. Honestly I think Mizzou will be tough but I have my doubts they will run the table in the North.

A winnin' record at the end would be great but mostly what I want to see is a lean, mean, FEARSOME BLACKSHIRT defense.

Getting the defense back into form would be beautiful to see.

I think that keeping Shawn Watson and the offense in-tact will be huge for our Huskers. We may have lost a couple big time receivers due to graduation, but we have other good (maybe great) receivers to step right in. Our line is experienced, deep, and will be a force to be reckoned with. Our backfield is extremely talented and our quarterback is confident.

I believe our defense will play for Bo like they played for him in 2003. We may not have quite the talent that we had in '03, but I think our defense will surprise many people who think we have to "start all over". Bo doesn't have to "start all over" with these guys on defense. He will get them refocused and change their plan of attack. That will change their attitude. The defense's confidence is key. Once they get their confidence going, they will realize what Bo is teaching them, works. When this happens, watch out! Question is... how soon will it happen? 1st game? 5th game? Hopefully, Fall camp!

In response to the thread wondering where the "husker haters' are, I figured this needed a bump.

Vikes Forever comment back on 7/20 is pretty much on line if the Huskers can handle C.U. on the 28th. I think the Huskers will win, but I thought the Buffaloes defense in the Ok. St. game looked tougher than what N.U. faced in the last two games. I see C.U. is rated 1st in pass defense in the Big XII. Hopefully a good mix of run and pass and a stout Husker defense can get the job done. After seeing the Huskers early in the season, even the first 3 they won, I thought the rest of the season might be ugly. But Bo and his staff have done a good job. Hope Bo can keep the staff together for a while. But if some of the assistants move on to better jobs, it's a sign he has good assistants. Go Huskers!
