regarding Keller, there's a saying I learned from one of my kid's hockey coaches
'they can't pass if they're on their ass'... Time and Defenses will tell just how good Keller might be...this league is not the PAC 10...

Well, does it matter than much? Chump...er, Zac is going to lead them at the Cottonbowl...and Callahan appears to be considering re-tooling the whole shebang before that...
nice...lots and lots of turmoil heading into a big game...that's always helpful

In the season of 'Peace on Earth' and 'Good will toward men' I'm gratified that we're seeing folks more sensitive, caring sides.
Reminds me of growing up with my brothers...:d BadBass, I can't answer you directly on what Callahan said or is planning...only heard him make the comment on one of his post game interviews (2-3 days after the Big XII championship game)...didn't see it referred to in print...only got it as a soundbite on the radio...whether or not it will actually occur, or whether it was a 'message' to his current 'chumps' er, starters, time will tell...

Now, in general, taking shots at the kids who play the game and the folks who work with them every day through a long, difficult season and the previous year is, simply, short-sighted and shows a distinct lack of contact with reality.
If you need further clarification, I could care less if it's KSU fans b*tching about KSU players, or NU fans berating NU players/coaches or highschool, or professional levels... In my opinion, it's small-minded and bush-league at all levels and is evidence of folks who have bigger problems than the outcome of a simple game, or a simple play. Constructive criticism (offering up real, workable options, for example) is a completely different issue. Monday morning QB's are decidedly not in that group. Face it, these kids, these coaches get an awful lot...but they also give an awful lot....somewhere, somehow they've earned respect. I choose to give them that. That's not thought police stuff...it's common decency... as an example, why would we say something about Zac that we sure as heck wouldn't say if it were our own son or daughter? Or our close friend's son or daughter? When was the last time we all really thought of these kids as actual human beings and not as extensions of our egos? or caricatures of 'good vs bad'? I know, too deep for the forum... :zrazzing: But, much like many discussions on this forum, I simply ask the most basic of questions: can anyone explain how breaking down perceived failures of the team or a player by the fans can actually lead to improved performance on the field? Remember, it was this type of rhetoric that helped Solich find a new opportunity...and put the team in this spot to begin with... As for the final absurdity, had all the 'knowledgeable fans' of the 70's and 80's had their way, Osborne isn't around for the 90's. If these jobs were so darned easy, you and I could do them too... I have yet to personally put my resume' in for consideration as coach at any level for football...

Just got done reading all the posts here and have some thoughts to add.....
First of all I'm not trying to stir the pot, just stated my opinions/facts. Here are my thoughts on Zac.... and no I'm not his biggest fan! Zac obviously had one of his worse games against OU as a husker! But I don't believe he is an average QB. He has some weaknesses (scrambling, mobility, arm strength? ) but he also has some strengths that are extremely important for a QB to succeed at the college level (leadership, toughness, smarts, accuracy). Average? Here are the facts.... voted Big12 player of the year. Average for NU? I would agree with that - based on the last 6-7 QB's NU has had. Different type of QB's I know but you see my point.... Now the Big12 didn't have a superstar at the QB position this year (Freeman and McCoy are future stars though) but Zac is better than average and will have a slim chance at the NFL. I don't believe he will make it though.... regardless that is not average. Zac is a good QB (not great) - he would be much better with a stronger O-line especially since he has ZERO mobility. With that said, 5 years from now I believe Zac will be viewed as a average QB by NU standards. Anyone who follows NU as closely as I do, knows what I'm talking about. We have lots of talent to work with at the QB position in the next several years (Keller, Lee will be studs) and lots of talent surrounding them. Now to the Auburn - NU game. A lot of people are writing us off on this game already. Auburn is a great team but I don't see them beating NU. For one, I don't believe their Qb is good enough to beat us. NU's problems are in the secondary, everyone knows that! Unfortunately for Auburn, I don't think they can take advantage of our weakness enough to win the game...... Although, I felt OU's QB couldn't beat us either and was wrong. OK, he didn't beat NU by himself but Thompson arguebly played the game of his life. NU beat NU..... in that game! NU will win the Cotton bowl and it may not be that close..... Go ahead and call me out..... I'll be back here Jan 1 |

I sure hope you're right about the Cotton Bowl. Much like the OU game i have no idea what to expect as far as the outcome of the game. Hopefully the Huskers wont beat themselves this time around. -Drew

Drew, one of the reasons I hold Zac in such high regard is 'because he doesn't slide'...kid is a warrior and 'brings it' every game...and that's no comment on his talent...just his desire and the most important intangible of all: heart.
And I am decidedly NOT a Husker fan...

... The rest of your post above is mere Psych 101 and nothing more ... When all is said and done the sport is College Football 8) ... When a player plays a game like Zach played in the game in question , the kid takes a few on the chin regarding comments & remarks and life goes on for the kid , now on the contrary he doesn't set in a corner and cry , again in closing the sport is College Football and yes the thought police is always around the corner and they always will be , it's a sad part of life that the majority of one must deal with when it comes to a sport such as College Football , again did I mention the the sport is Football 8) ... |
