Default What should I do?

I'm going into 7th grade next year and I want to join football and/or wrestling. Should I try wrestling, football, or both?

I think you should do both. At least give both a try.

I did both and it was great! The only negative part was trying to be big as possible for football, then needing to make weight for wrestling.

wonderful thing about high school football...you can be any size and play football.

Now, with the monsters they develop in Highschool today on the line...it sure shapes up as a challenge...

I'm with Lundlover on this...try as many things as you want...and have fun.

Shoot, I'd even say if you wanted to learn to flyfish, go for it...

I did both from the 8th grade all through High School. Though I preferred wrestling, it was football that got me a full ride to college.

You're young. Enjoy whatever you do to it's fullest but make sure you always give it your most and your best.

Work hard and have fun.

Do both. They compliment each others. Play as many sports as you can. It is over before you know it. Don't regret not playing.

Yea I would suggest doing everything you can. There is no negatives except it cuts into your hunting/fishing time.

If you dont do it you will regret it. Remember that the hard work you put in some how down the road will pay off. Teamwork is a great thing to learn.

As a coach I would tell you to participate in everything that draws your interest, just make sure you're playing the sport because you want to do it not because somebody else wants you to do it....like parents or other coaches. Plain and simple, if it's not fun for you then don't do it. You should enjoy playing and being a part of a team for yourself not others.
Also if you play football and you want to wrestle, make sure you wrestle either close to or at the same weight you are at while playing football. If you plan to drop weight, do it in the proper manner so you do not do any harm to your body. Trying to "make weight" the wrong ways can damage your body for the rest of your life.

Excellant advice. It's already been stated but they do compliment each other. Wrestling IMO tends to develop quickness and strength in many young atheletes. It didn't for me, but it does more many. Besides you'll find the increase in physical stamina to be a benefit to your time hunting and fishing. As an old fat guy I can get pretty winded just getting to the water or blind or sometimes even getting up from the dinner table.

I gotta agree with Ty on this one. Do them both, actually do one for each season. I played football and golf but skipped wrestling because it was in the heart of hunting season. You have your whole life to hunt and fish but only 4 years of highschool sports.

I really wish I would have went out for wrestling earlier than I did.

Oh, and Cross country is a girl's thing :P

The only bad thing about it is they only have flag football @ my school. I think I'd make a pretty good RB since I have some fast legs and the moves 2 leave defenders in their shoes. BTW, thnx for the advise guys. I much appreciate it.

Why stay away from 7th grade girls in 7th grade?

Girls are just trouble in general lol. I would do both to tell you the truth. I am going to be a senior and I regret not sticking with football. Give both a try, if you don't like being that busy than stay with the one you like more.

The football players get all the glory AND the chicks.....the wrestlers get to roll around on the mat with guys. Take your pick

I did both. I was tall and really really skinny when i went into freshman year. Did football and gained some weight, and some muscle. Then went to wrestling practice. I was more in shape from running and being active from football than most of the other kids. This helped me gain an advantage. I ultimatly chose wrestling because I couldnt gain any more weight. While wrestling 4 years, some of the most sucessful guys were the ones who did both. A few of them winning state.
