Wow, is it June this week already?
Holy crud!! That means it must be almost time for my favorite NGPC event of the summer, the NGPC Carp-O-Rama at Pawnee SRA on 6/23/2012 starting at 8:00 a.m.
There will be a variety of family activities going centered around, of course, carp fishing. My favorite part of this NGPC event has to be the carp eating!! Also included again will be the popular and cool fishing printing for the youngsters as well as demonstrations on carp cleaning and cooking by NGPC staff and other volunteers from around the area.
The NEFGA forum is slated to give some assistance to the NGPC at this activity this year.
Hundreds and hundreds of folks usually show up for this thing and at times it gets a little hairy for the NGPC getting everyone registered and supplied with gear and bait and headed to the water quickly.
You can help out in a number of ways at this year's Pawnee Carp-O-Rama.
What we need mostly is just warm bodies. If you can show up and lend a hand, that would be fantastic! To list what we we are looking for;
#1) We need doughball. Lot's of it. The NGPC provides bait to all the fisherman who need it at this event. The participation at this event is such that the supply of doughball gets stretched a bit thin by late morning. So if you'd like to mix up a batch of your favorite doughball carp bait, we'd love to have it to share for use at this event You can drop your dougball off at the event at Pawnee in the parking lot anytime after 8 a.m. the day of the event, the earlier the better. Arrangements can also be made to pick it up prior to the event from you in the Omaha, Lincoln and Kearney areas.
#2) We need some volunteers at the event early in the morning to help the NGPC staff get all the youngsters signed up for the prize drawing that takes place at lunchtime there at the event. As families show up, the line can get sort of long and we would like to have at least a half-dozen NEFGA forum members on hand for the early part of the morning to simply assist everyone with getting the youngsters registration forms filled out and in the bucket. If you can only do an hour or whatever, that's great
#3) We like to have a few of our resident forum carp-fishing enthusiasts to man the NEFGA forum's booth down on shore at the lake to assist the many, many carp fishing newcomers that will be present with advice on rigging, gear and baiting for carp. You will not have to set up the booth or take it down. All we need is your knowledge, skill and glowing personalities. Yes, Harold, I know, 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
2 out of 3 has gotten me pretty far at times and it will be more than enough for the Carp-O-Rama.
Like Harold, you do not have to be any kind of an "expert" at of this stuff. It's a great opportunity for the youth fishing instructors out there to again take some time to share your love of fishing in general with a number of youngsters. Many of these kids (and their parents) have never touched a fishing pole in their lives and just need someone to show them how much fun and how easy this all is.
All volunteers are welcome and all are certainly needed. Please contact myself or any of the other forum staff if you are inclined to lend a hand for this fantastic, fun,family day of fishing (and food!!) down at Pawnee!
In any event, make plans to get yourself and your kids (or borrow or rent some if need be) down to Pawnee SRA on Saturday, June 23,2012 for the NGPC Carp-O-Rama. (Parking Lot on the east side of the lake, you can't miss it!)
