Schedule Changes for Arbor Lodge Event

LINCOLN, Neb. – The living history schedule for Arbor Lodge State Historical Park in Nebraska City on Oct. 11 has changed due to the cold, wet weather forecast, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
A vintage baseball game has been cancelled, as well as blacksmithing and cider-pressing demonstrations and hayrack rides. A Dutch oven cooking demonstration has been moved to Oct. 18. Other demonstrations originally scheduled for outdoors, such as beadwork and pottery, have been moved inside Arbor Lodge Mansion.
Demonstrations will be from 1-5 p.m. Admission to the mansion is $4 for adults and $1 for children. A park entry permit is required.

More Prescribed Burns Scheduled

LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has planned some additional prescribed burns this fall to take place when conditions are favorable.
The burns are scheduled for the following wildlife management areas: Myrtle Hall, Loup County; Sherman Reservoir, Sherman County; Pressey, Custer County; Leonard Koziol, Howard County; Osage, Johnson County; and Hackberry, Antelope County.
The primary goal of a burn is to reduce invasive species competing with native species. Burning improves the quality of habitat available to a variety of wildlife species.

Acres Added to PATH Program in Saunders County

LINCOLN, Neb. – A program for mentored youth hunts has additional acres available, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
Six new Passing Along the Heritage (PATH) sites have been added at Lake Wanahoo, located a mile north of Wahoo in Saunders County.
The sites, added by the Lower Platte North Natural Resource District, total nearly 650 acres. They range in size from 40 to 200 acres and allow for deer, upland bird and waterfowl hunting.
PATH, which has more than 16,000 acres enrolled statewide, allows hunters age 17 or younger to hunt with an experienced hunter (mentor). The mentor is not permitted to hunt but should focus his attention on the youth, ensuring a safe, successful hunt.
For more information or to become a PATH mentor, contact the nearest Commission office or go to ngpc.state.ne.us/hunting/programs/youthhunt/.
