NGPC news release, 7/7/09:
LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraska hunters will have an opportunity to hear and comment on possible changes to waterfowl hunting regulations when the Nebraska Game and Parks Board of Commissioners holds its regular meeting July 17 in Lincoln. A public hearing to consider amendments to the waterfowl regulations for 2009 will be at 8:30 a.m. Commission staff will provide information and present possible regulation changes and the board will hear any input from the public. Waterfowl regulations and season dates will not be adopted until the board's Aug. 28 meeting. Another public hearing is scheduled for 8:45 a.m. and will be used to consider amending wildlife regulations for Clear Creek Wildlife Management Area near Lake McConaughy. A possible change to the implementation of the controlled hunt there, as well as additional hunting opportunities on Clear Creek Refuge, will be considered. The board also will consider: -- a recommendation to approve the acquisition of the 220-acre Hermone Tract north of Lincoln in Lancaster County, which would be managed for wildlife diversity and hunting, and designated as Little Salt Creek West Wildlife Management Area. -- a recommendation to grant an easement to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Indian Cave State Park near Shubert so wing dikes along the Missouri River at Indian Cave Bend may be notched and extended in an effort to create shallow-water habitat to benefit the endangered pallid sturgeon. The board also will hear presentations by Steven Schultz regarding the Niobrara River Economic Study, as well as Friends of Fort Hartsuff. The meeting begins at 8 a.m. at Commission headquarters, 2200 N. 33rd St.

It's been several years since I was last up there. They had a gal (She was from Alaska!) that managed the "store". I was the ONLY ONE there and took an unsupervised tour, including the Cemetary. Part of it is on private ground, as well. How much are "we" willing to pay for "history"? There was NO FEE, by the way. Just a Park Sticker to enter. I have a feeling the "Friends of" are gonna have to "volunteer" or dig deep for $$$$$$$'s! Harold F.
