LINCOLN, Neb. – Nebraskans love their Fourth of July, and they enjoy showing their patriotic side while visiting state parks and recreation areas. These parks are special places to be on this holiday, as evidenced in a photo essay entitled “The Fourth at the Parks.”
The holiday photo essay is just one of many interesting articles in the July issue of NEBRASKAland Magazine, arriving in mailboxes and at newsstands now. In “Goose Lake Rebound,” regional editor Eric Fowler tells how the eastern Sandhills lake has been transformed into a prime fishery, thanks to a regulation change and renovation. Fowler also introduces readers, in “A Bloody Mess of Cats,” to Jay Dee Osburn of Valentine, whose favorite bait for catching channel catfish is blood. As a radio talk show host in Omaha, Todd Brandt makes his living talking. In “No Time to Talk,” associate editor Jeff Kurrus reveals the outdoorsman in Brandt, who, ironically perhaps, is very quiet while he is fishing. NEBRASKAland is published 10 times a year and is available at Commission offices and newsstands across the state or by subscription.
