NGPC news release, 5/20/09:
LINCOLN, Neb. – Doniphan resident Ken Haggard restores fishing creels that will rest on the collector's shelf, as well as the fly-fisherman's hip. It makes no difference to him. “It's a labor of love,” he said. Haggard has collected creels since 1978, but he didn't start restoring them until he retired from a banking career in 2005. Now there is a big demand for his creels, which take about two weeks to restore. Haggard's story is just one of many interesting articles in the June issue of NEBRASKAland Magazine, arriving in mailboxes and at newsstands now. Regional editor Eric Fowler's photo essay “Outdoor Kids: They Still Play Outside in Genoa,” proves that not all youth spend their time indoors playing video games. In “Kill or Be Killed: Life in a Nebraska Farm Pond,” associate editor Jeff Kurrus looks at the struggle for survival that exists for inhabitants beneath a pond's surface. NEBRASKAland is published 10 times a year and is available at Commission offices and newsstands across the state or by subscription.
