NGPC news release, 5/20/09:
LINCOLN, Neb. – Summer is practically here. Are you ready for months of outdoor fun under the Nebraska sun? The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has suggestions to ensure people are ready for summer, from beginning to end. Here are some tips: Purchase a park entry permit – The permit is required for each vehicle entering Nebraska's 87 state parks, state recreation areas and state historical parks. Purchase a fishing permit – Rivers, streams, reservoirs, canals, ponds and sandpits all are available to anglers of all experience levels. It is a great opportunity to introduce a child or adult to a fantastic hobby. Prepare your boat – Boat owners should make sure their vessel and trailer are properly registered, prepared and equipped. Take a boater safety course – Visit OutdoorNebraska.org/boating for a schedule of classes. Take a hunter education course –Waiting too long to do this will result in fewer options available at the end of summer. Take a class now and have one less thing to do come hunting season. Plan a trip – OutdoorNebraska.org is the best resource available to make preparations for a trip, whether it is a weekend escape or a weeklong fishing trip. Maps, videos, driving directions, and park amenities may be found within the Web site, which also has a link to a site to make reservations. Prepare equipment – Air up the tires on the bicycle, dust off the canoe, and load a fishing reel with new line. Are the tent and sleeping bag in good shape? Make a camping checklist, gather the gear and have it ready to go. Visit OutdoorNebraska.org for more information.
