NGPC news release, 10/23/08:
LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Nebraska Game and Parks Commissioners will consider recommendations to amend wildlife, fishing and parks regulations while addressing a number of other issues during a meeting at 8 a.m., MT, Oct. 30, at the Alliance Public Library, 1750 Sweetwater Avenue. There are six public hearings on the agenda. They are: 8:30 a.m. -- to consider increases in permit fees for deer, turkey, elk, antelope and lifetime permits; establishment of a $5 non-refundable application fee for antelope permits; and an electronic issue fee of $1 for annual and duplicate park permits, effective with 2009 permits. 8:45 a.m. -- to consider amending fishing regulations. 9 a.m. -- to establish 2009 seasons and regulations for spring and fall turkey hunting. 9:15 a.m. – to consider amending regulations to authorize shared revenue auction permits for big game. 9:30 a.m. – to consider removing the bald eagle from the list of threatened species. 9:45 a.m. – to consider permitting limited hunting opportunities at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park. Also on the agenda: – a recommendation to hold a public hearing at the next meeting to consider amending some fishing regulations; – a recommendation to hold a public hearing at the next meeting to consider amending some wildlife regulations; – a recommendation to hold a public hearing at the next meeting to consider amending regulations governing administration and use of property; – a recommendation requesting approval of a pilot program to expand access to private lands and waters for hunters and anglers to be funded with an increase of $4 to the Habitat Stamp; – a recommendation requesting approval to establish an angler access enhancement program for public waters, to be funded with an increase of $2.50 to the Aquatic Habitat Stamp; – a recommendation to approve future translocations of river otters into portions of the Republican River and its watersheds as part of the continuance of the Nebraska otter recovery plan; – a recommendation regarding the 2009 Nebraska Game and Parks Commission marketing plan; - a recommendation regarding the amendment of fees for state park facilities and activities; – a recommendation regarding acquisition of a 120-acre tract of wildlife land in Johnson County; – a recommendation regarding acquisition of a 19.37-acre tract of land in Lancaster County; - a recommendation regarding an easement at Jack Sinn Wildlife Management Area in Lancaster County for erosion repair and bank stabilization; – a recommendation regarding the 171.078-acre Middle Loup land exchange in Thomas and Dawes counties; – an appearance of A. James Moravek regarding ATVs on the public beach at Lake McConaughy; – presentation of the Officer of the Year Award from the Association of Midwest Fish and Game Law Enforcement Officers; – and a recommendation regarding hunting seasons and permit requirements at Fort Atkinson State Historical Park.
