Default Commissioners to Meet July 18 in Kearney

NGPC news release, 7/10/08:

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will consider amending 2008 waterfowl hunting season dates and regulations and address a number of other issues at an 8 a.m., July 18 meeting at the University of Nebraska at Kearney Student Union’s Cedar Room, 1013 West 27 St.

There are three public hearings scheduled for the meeting:

8:30 a.m. – to amend regulations to establish an Apprentice Hunter Education Exemption Certificate for a fee of $5;

8:45 a.m. – to take public input and consider amendments to season dates and regulations for hunting coots, ducks, geese, crow and the falconry season;

9 a.m. – to consider amendments to state park regulations for the purpose of regulating installation and use of seasonal waterfowl hunting blinds at Lake McConaughy State Recreation Area, and to allow public hunting at parts of Fort Atkinson State Historical Park;

Other agenda items include:

-– a recommendation to hold a public hearing at the next meeting to approve hunting season dates and regulations for Nebraska’s 2008 waterfowl seasons;

-– a recommendation to hold a public hearing at the next meeting to consider authorizing a 2009 bighorn sheep hunting season and the number of permits allowed;

-- an appearance by Don Dunlap, representing the State Auditor’s Office;

-- a recommendation to approve the gift of a 57.52-acre tract of wildlife land in Buffalo County;

-- a recommendation regarding an easement with the Corps of Engineers at Randall W. Schilling Wildlife Management Area;

-– the presentation of 30-year service awards to hunter education volunteer instructors;

-– and presentation of the Nebraska Boating Officer of the Year Award.
