Expo Challenge Champions Crowned

LINCOLN, Neb. – Three Nebraskans earned the title of champion of the Cabela’s Outdoor Challenge, which took place April 19 at Nebraska Outdoors Expo in Kearney.

Julie Campbell of Hildreth (Female Adult), Brian Blankenship of Kearney (Male Adult) and Aaron Winberg of Hazard (Youth) won their respective divisions in the Challenge.

The top-three finishers in each division received Cabela’s gift cards. The rest of the top three were:

Female Adult Division – 2. Tammy Kittle, Ord; 3. June Winberg, Broken Bow; Male Adult Division – 2. Steve Thayer, Kearney; 3. Roger Brawelett, Kearney; Youth Division – 2. Dylan Tegtmeier, Milford; 2. Brady Standage, Ravenna.

A total of 165 people competed in the Challenge, which allowed participants to compete for free in six skilled events. Adults competed in shotgun, 3-D archery, trapping, kayaking, rod and reel casting, and camping games. Youths competed in pellet gun, archery, trapping, fishing, rod and reel casting, and camping games.

The second annual Expo, hosted by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and presenting sponsor Cabela’s, was an opportunity for Nebraskans of all ages to celebrate their outdoor heritage.

The first two days of the Expo, April 17-18, were for schools only, with 2,600 students and 90 schools participating. The Expo drew 9,600 participants over the three days.

The Missouri River Expo is scheduled for Sept. 20-21 at Ponca State Park.
