Default Commissioners Approve Aquatic Habitat Plan

NGPC news release, 3/14/08:

In addition to setting big game hunting seasons (see Hunting Forum), commissioners Friday:

– approved a recommendation to hold a public hearing at the next meeting to consider establishing an apprentice hunter education exemption certificate fee;

– approved a recommendation to hold a public hearing at the next meeting to consider adding Shell Lake in Sheridan County to the current list of wildlife management areas that allow all-terrain vehicles and snowmobiles over ice;

– approved Nebraska’s second aquatic habitat plan;

– approved a recommendation to enter into a third-party cooperative agreement with the Nebraska Public Power District of Columbus for a project on Sutherland Reservoir that will include construction of a new double-wide concrete boat ramp, a restroom, a handicap-compliant parking area expansion, a wind breakwater rock structure, site lighting, and pre-agreement engineering related services. Authorization to proceed with this cost share project using the Federal, Sport Fish Restoration motorboat access funds shall be contingent upon receiving final approval from the Regional, Federal Aid office in Denver;

– voted to approve and support the 20-year hunter/angler recruitment, development and retention plan and approved staff to move forward with implementation as outlined in the plan to change and improve agency efforts to recruit, develop and retain hunters and anglers in Nebraska;

– Commissioner Dr. Mark Pinkerton drew the winning ticket for the 2008 elk lottery permit. The winner of the permit was Ken Hollopeter of Valentine.

Chad, I have a print copy in front of me right now that Don Gabelhouse gave me at the meeting. I didn't see any extra copies set out for public distribution this morning. We need to find out if the report is available on-line -- lots of interesting ideas.

Thanks, Scott, but I think Chad was asking about the "20-year Plan for Hunter/Angler Recruitment, Development and Retention." I've sent an email to Doug Bauch in I&E asking if there are plans anytime soon to post the 28-page booklet on the game & parks website. I'll let folks know when I hear back from him.

Whoops, sorry. I read the title, not the fine details, like, oh, the post I was responding to!

Doug would be the man to know if it can/will be published there.

Sorry, I'll pay more attention to detail next time!
