Default What do you think?

Here's the deal. The land I just bought has a beaver dam on an old creek bed that covers about 4 acres. It is about 5 t 6 feet deep, maybe a little more. In the spring when the ice melts the river rises and floods this whole place, (end of Feb) If I would stock some fish in there do you think they would leave with the high water or hunker down and stay for a while. There is always some water going through this all year long so I know they would be good in the summer, I'm just worried about the high water about every other year.

What are condition like the rest of the year? Does it get pretty weedy? Algae blooms? I would be worried about investing too much in a fish population with an easy opportunity for them to bolt. Is it ducky? If not, I might look at diverting the creek for a time and doing a little excavation and dam building.

some of those fisheries biologist types might be more concerned with the lack of 10 foot deep or more water...as over-wintering sites...and the potentially increased potential for winterkill...

but I'd ask them...

I agree with Chad, if you are willing to put some money into fish make sure they stay put. Pond Boss Magazine Home Page! has some great info and lots of other pond owners with their input
