PVC and hoses? Really? I never thought to go that route. Cool.

Ok, what should I do with this. I have a 10 foot long piece of PVC, 3 inches. Then I have seven 1 inch pieces, about 6 feet long each. What should I create with that?

This is one idea I had, the PVC ones in the middle of the picture, but not sure exactly what kind of fish they attract. I'm thinking a variety since it's near the bottom.

It laid down and did not float which is great. I did not have to use a bunch of sand to keep it down.

I ended up just making a couple more trees. I didn't think I had enough material, but I just made them a little shorter, which was probably a good idea.

I'd make them as light (ballast wise) as possible. Then you always have the option of grapple hooking them and moving or removing them if they don't seem to be working where you place them. You don't need extra heavy stuff in a private slow speed lake.

I didn't think of that. Oh, well, I don't think they're too terribly heavy to move and hopefully I'll get good advice on where to place them so I won't have to move them. Neat little tidbit I learned a couple weekends ago; don't spread your structure sporadically around your pond. You need to 'connect' each patch of structure so the fish move from spot to spot naturally. Learn new things every day.

want to try this way next time, maybe for shallow flats.......we have a gradual slope off our seawall so thinking of putting it there

basically 6' of 6" PVC, anchored at each end with concrete (i use the dishpan method) and smaller diameter pvc drilled sporadically placed through the 6" piece.

I hold the pvc in place by just drilling in a screw where the smaller diameter pvc enters the larger diameter pvc.....one screw on both ends holds just fine, and 1 1/4" drywall screws work perfect!

you could use galvanized in case you were worried about corrosion

That's pretty cool. Let me know how that goes. I think you would need a substantial amount of weight on the concrete ends to keep down a long 6" piece of PVC that will be full of air. Oh, wait, I guess you're putting holes in it so it'll eventually fill. Duh.

All of my structure goes into Lake of the Ozarks so we weight our stuff down pretty good.

One 13QT Dishpan is usually about 40 - 60 pounds, which is plenty

I am having a really hard time finding scrap PVC. I found a bit and was able to make 2 more trees out of it, but I need more before we fill. Anyone have any or know anyone with some?

With the snow over the weekend we had to find something else to do other than digging.

The PVC and wood structure I put in last year is really kicking butt this fall. Crappie, Gills and LMB's are hanging out on it on a regular basis. Yesterday I caught 20+ crappie, 20+ gills and 5 -6 LMB's all around the PVC and wood structure. Minnows, worms and ice jigs. I'm not going to add anything until spring. I'll just ice fuish this stuff to death this winter. I only need to remove about 1000 more 7" or less female gills then things should be better.

I would be more than happy to assist in removal of the gils

It is amazing what a little structure will do to your fishery.

"if you build it, they will come"

That is one of the nice things about Lake of the Ozarks. When they were getting the area ready to fill, they cleared out ALL of the timber that was to be submerged once the lake was at full pool. This is the opposite of what they did at Truman, but I digress (Lake of the Ozarks is a private lake, Truman = Corps of Engineers reservoir). Anyhow, the only structure on the Ozarks are the docks, so submerging PVC does absolute WONDERS for your little off the dock fishery.

we recently bought an underwater camera and checked out all our pvc structures we placed in the last two years......LOOKS GREAT!

We used these: Porcupine Fish Attractor - Fish Structure

When you slide the camera to the bottom of the structures where we have about 6 massed together, it looks like tree roots tangled up everywhere, looks GREAT!!!!

We love pvc, for two reasons, it doesnt rot, and it is easy to grapple hook them and move them whenever possible.
