Sarpy County Farm Ponds?

I fish one Sarpy County Farm Pond it is more geared for Big Blue Gill and Large Crappie with a bunch of Very Large Channel Cat fish. The bass fishing is good but nothing over 3lbs. I was out this weekend and talking to the pond owner he was telling me they are draining the pond, and three others. He was talking about reinforcing the dams and I think they had something to do with the creeks. He sound like he really didn’t know what was going on. Maybe someone on here does.

Maybe you can salvage some of the fish and move them to the other "Sarpy county farm pond." That is, after they figure out what is going on with their pond and what they could put in to improve it.

As far as the draining it won’t be drained the whole way. The pond is deep 27 in a few spots, and majority around 18-21. So the fish should still live they are putting in an aerator for the time being until its filled back up.



Another thing I would like to point out the water clarity is unbelievable. This winter ice fishing in one of the deep holes 27’ you could see your tear drop 18 - 19 feet down. What would make the water that clear? I shut the vex off and fished by sight. It was fun but I don’t think the water be that clear.

The easy, smart-***** answer is a lack of stuff in the water.

Stuff in the water can be good and bad though. You don't want a lot of suspended sediment like dirt and clay. They will typically settle out under the ice and the water will clear considerably, unless you have a carp/bullhead problem - even then they're less active. You do, however, want phytoplankton and zooplakton, and those will also reduce visibility. With the amount of visibility you're describing (close to 20 feet), the nutrients must all be sequestered somewhere.
