Question Archery Turkey Shot Placement

I am thinking about going after Turkeys this spring with my bow. I am curious where exactly do you shoot a Turkey with a broadhead(not using the guillitine heads)?

Broadside you should aim for the wing but, head on right for the beard.

On a Primos tape I recently got, the one guy that talked about shot placement on archery turkeys was saying on broadside shots, he tries to pin their hips together with the arrow. He pretty much did it too and it worked good. They gotta jump to fly.

I personally don't use broad heads when turkey hunting, i use blunts. shoot em in the head down to the base of the neck, anywhere in there will kill the bird for sure. some people i know that do hunt with broad heads use expandables and shoot them right above the drum sticks, they can't go nowhere then. but hey, to each his own.

A lot of talk about this on one of the larger bow sites a while back. Shooting them in the football is the term that was used. The football is the area right ubove the legs. The feathers are shaped/patterned like a football and located ubove the lower wing area. At first glance, it looks too low and too far back but boy does it do a job on a broadside turkey. Not too long ago I would only shoot at a turkey if he was straight on or walking away. I'd lost too many broadside shots. That shot is now my top choice. Mark

Thanks alot for all the info, I never would have thought to shoot above the legs, but it makes sense. I will have to give that a try, assuming I can hit it at all...

If their fanned out and looking straight away, shoot em in the B-hole. Seriously..

I always used dulled up thunderheads, wanted a pass through but I wanted to roll them. Always shoot for the butt of the wings, this is where the vitals are. Turkeys are going to run, disorient them and have a chance to pounce on em'. Gunner

That makes sense as it would be a clear path to the vitals.

I was always taught to draw a straight line up from their legs and make that an aiming point. Here is a diagram. If you do that on a broadside shot you will double lung him. Here is also another link to bow shots on turkey vitals from different postions. Bagging Birds with your Bow

A friend of mine in MO once told me "Shoot them in the turkey" It seemed to work for him anyhow.

I use a normal broadhead and just try to pin its wing to its body. (of course it passes through but good way to aim). Try to wait till they are not strutting or puffed up because it is a lot of feathers and not that much body and you may think you had a good shot and have just hit feathers. Up the butt works too and is ideal for drawing your bow. Good luck. Turkeys with a bow is one of the funnest things on earth.

An earlier post mentioned the walking away shot. This is a really good shot with a bow. Aim right above the tail. I have shot only 3 but my cousin gave me this advice and he has several kills. I wait for that shot and have had 3 kills..."on the spot"!

We're going to try run a turkey season promotional event on the forum once the season cranks up!

I think it's going to be really cool. Stayed tuned. In the meantime we have a snow goose hunting promotion going that should get rocking just as soon as we get some geese up here.

I've also heard rumblings of a really cool summer forum fishing promotion as well!!
