How important is it to finish the face on the economy sillosocks? I have quite a few and put eyes on some but left the beak unpainted on all. I do have about half of my 30 dozen with completed faces. Do you think I should add the comlete face to the rest?

Call Jim and buy the new decals he sells.
I wouldnt really worry about it though unless you have the time.

It would be one thing less to worry about when the snows get here. When they get there, I want to be able to figure out how to get birds to drop in. When I go through my checklist to try and figure things out when birds aren't cooperating, the last thing I want to be worrying about is that all my decoys are not painted right. You just never know what it might be that day especially with the higher % of adults this year. If it does happen to be decoys missing detail on one day, then you are suddenly screwed and there is not much you can do about it. That is a lot harder to fix when the snows are everywhere and you don't want to waste your time painting.
Might be worth it, might be not. Probably won't matter in the long run. But I wouldn't be one to risk it. You can get 10 dozen beaks done in a night or a saturday, easy. A few guys and they would be finished quickly. But that is coming from a guy who tends to be a perfectionist when it comes to snows. Heck, I just went through 1000 some windsocks and scrubbed every speck of dirt off of them and retouched the wing tips until they were all perfect. Waste of time? Absolutely. But I can't find another way to get my mind off snows, and it just might help me out a bit come spring. Good Hunting, PATRICK OLSON |
