Hey I see that everyone is trying to get a fishing tournament or whatever to get some members together but what about a good ole snow goose hunt. I would love to get together with some people and pound some snow geese.

Well I havent dug out the silos that I made yet but I have 70 shells a dozen full bodies one caller right now but have the stuff to make another one. If my silos are ok I could have up to up to 150 decoys. If I could get my friends to go we could have up to 500 more homemade decoys

Ive always toyed around with this idea but man it never happens on the large scale. Id like to tear into some juvies but really dont think lots of dekes are needed.
If someone can find a good field strategically located in Nebraska im down. Me and the boys have about 1200 sillosocks, some Deadly Decoys and GHG fullbodies. Also lots of other "garage sale" type decoys that dont get used anymore.

Looks like Alex is at it again, his standard question. I think it would be a good idea to get to know some guys and put out a huge spread with everybodies dekes. God knows it would help some days. I am in, I got northwinds, Jim Jones, silos, fullbodies, floaters, fliers, layout blind and working on some ground by my acreage.
I was told they use our lake as a roost pond in the spring, now I just have to get to know the neighbors/farmers and get on the corn fields.

I think the forum snow goose hunt gets brought up about every year, but has yet to actually happen. I am in and can supply plenty of stuff. Extra layouts, socks, FBs, etc. The thing is, more than 6 hunters makes snow goose hunting dang hard. To many bodies to hide unless you have some sort of special hiding situation like a pit.
The best thing to do is to have it somewhere where there is someone's barn, yard, etc. nearby where we can set up camp. Then have shifts of hunters every few hours or something. Back at camp we can have the BBQs going and fellas BSin. And a nice, leisurely snow goose hunt going on in the field close by. We should plan this now. As soon as the snows are here, I (as well as most other snow hunters...) just don't have the time to visit the forums or to help get a hunt situated. I would be thinking around March 10 would probably be the best time to try. Better weather, better decoying, and usually a consistent migration throughout the day. Earlier and you will be dealing with spontaneous weather, more adults, more staging birds, etc... Putting a big hunt in the thick of things could spell out a messy jumble of frustrated first time snow goose hunters. Good Hunting, PATRICK OLSON |

Another thing, we should aim to get a few guys together with a lot of dekes and have those fellas in charge of bring the decoys. Having everybody bring a few decoys spells a mess sorting out decoys and hunters and then you end up with a junk yard spread... Which is great if you want to shoot as many snows as folks with a junk yard spread do.

Ya know I dont really think Ill have the time this year. Ill be guiding or already got hunts with buddies lined up on all my extra free time. Perhaps at the tail end of the migration. I got a field by Tekamah.
I was/did have one a couple years ago on the G&P page. I think we had 8 or 9 guys? We didnt see a ton. I think we shot 20. Had over 2000 dekes out. Really sucked setting up and taking down.

March 9th sounds like a good day to me it is on the weekend so we might be able to get a couple more people in for this one. Maybe we should put a limit on it. Maybe try to get two fields set up in the same area and have like 6-7 people in each.

You will find that pickin a random date to hunt will not be to your advantage... Weather plays a key role in a good snow goose hunt.
Wind will be your key to success ![]() you can pick the peak day but without wind well Good luck ![]()

We shot lots of birds on calm days last year. Just gotta use decoys that dont require wind.
Im not saying that wind doesnt help though. Ya know what we need? A REAL foggy day. Man they are just plain retarded on those days! I had 12 year old kids shooting 40 geese them selves. AWESOME! This was of course a pick after it cleared up. I believe Joshs crew almost shot 100 that morning. ![]()
