I know this might not be the best place for this post. However I have a question about the impact beavers have on small (35 Acre) pond.
Currently, they have 4 dens and are in the process of make a dam on the creek feeding the lake. Should I be concerned that they may negatively impact the lake? I believe that you can trap them, but can you shoot them? Any insight would be appreciated.

as far as effects on the lake, bank destabilization and increased erosion will probably be the worst of your worries. they will also chew up any trees or willows around the pond leaving sharp little skewers everywhere. The dam up stream may not be a real bad thing because it will catch some sediment that would other wise end up in your pond. If it was my pond I would let someone trap the beavers to keep their population under control, but I wouldn't try to run them out completely.

I believe that you can shoot beavers if you gain a depredation permit? Maybe not. If not depending on the area or how close it is I would be interested in trapping them for you. If your interested in that let me know. Thanks

Don't let the beavers tunnel into the dam, I have seen this once before on a 10 acre pond where the dam required and expensive fix after some heavy rains and a beaver tunnel popped a hole in the backside of the dam.
![]() A dam in the feeder creek feeding the pond shouldn't hurt anything.

Depending on where the pond is, I have a friend who would be more than happy to trap them for you.

I personally am ok with beavers right now b/c a creek that I have begun hunting on is only holding more water b/c the beaver has dammed it up and is leaving more water in the creek to hold lots of waterfowl.

Same here. The dams the beavers made on the creek i've been hunting some are holding lots of wood ducks. And wood ducks are perty!!

Does anyone think that they affect the fish in the lake?

Other maybe eating some of them or something I can't think of anything that would negatively affect the fish in the lake.

Beaver don't eat fish. They eat bark off of tender saplings and willows, in this part of the country they will also eat corn stalks when they are standing. I have seen feed dens where beavers have pulled lots and lots of corn out of a field and brought it to the creek to feed on. Now if you have otters on the other hand they will consume some pretty good amounts of fish.
