Default My woodie hole

Checked out my Woodie haven tonight and had 10 drakes and 10 hens on it!!
I guess my wood duck nesting box project was a success. I've never seen ducks like this on this spot before.
I was able to get pretty close to this bunch of hens and a green wing..

i love those drakes as well. In fact about 4 years ago on the last weekend of the season I shot a drake and a hen in one shot over an ice hole and have them both mounted on a chunk of driftwood. By far the biggest wood duck ive ever seen. His crown touches his back.

Isn't anyone going to suggest Shep take his weed whacker out there and clear a shooting lane?

(Nice going, Shep. Always fun to hear from our Maine correspondent.)

Hey Bald Guy!! That spot is on the upper marsh. The birds really stack up at the outlet of the Beaver dam. It's the perfect set up. 35 yards across. Birds pitch in between 20 and 30 yards!! The only thing tough about it is the backround! All spruce and balsam trees and dark as all get out. You can't pick out the bird from the backround for 20 minutes after legal. All you hear is the whirr of wings and a splash!!
