Default duck blind built.

Finally got my duck my blind finished up and ready to go. Just a little bit of brush left to add to it to blend it in better. It's not much special but at least it beats just hiding in the weeds.

How deep is that water? One of those small plastic or galvanized water tanks you can get from farm supplies stores would work great in there. They're 2ft by 4ft and 2ft deep cost about $70. You could anywhere on that marsh.

Keep adding vegetation. As the season goes on,the stuff will die,dry out and start to fall off. Find some CRP grass and weave it in too. A couple good winds once that stuff dries and there won't be much left. From what I have seen, the birds will roost in the thicker parts of the marsh but then like the open water once daylight hits. Get out there with a hedge trimmer and open the hole up alot. It'll also make it stay open longer once things start to freeze cause wind on open water is alot better than wind on flooded vegetation water.

I know that. I thought it was private.

It would have to be private otherwise he could not put a permanent blind on it. If not all his work was for not. Agree with the trimming get a nice hole and it will stay open longer.

I thought you could build them but they were open to everyone first come first serve type thing??????

Quote:
WATERFOWL BLINDS All blinds must be removed daily from Nebraska Game and Parks Commission wildlife management areas except at the following reservoirs: Calamus, Elwood, Enders (refuge portion only) Lewis and Clark, McConaughy, Medicine Creek, Merritt, Red Willow, Sherman and Swanson. At these lakes, temporary blinds may be built but they must be removed at the end of the waterfowl season. Use of these blinds is on a first-come, first-served basis, except for Lewis and Clark. A special permit is required and different regulations apply for blinds on Lewis and Clark. Contact the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (402) 667-7873, ext. 3245 or 3247 for details.

Yeah this is on private ground. Next time I go out there to brush it up some more i'll take the weed whipper with me and trim that up. The majority of the marsh is about mid thigh deep, but there is a channel that is just to the right of the picture that is pretty close to over my chest waders.

As it states no permanent blinds are permited except for the ones stated and then they are first come first serve. So any basin areas are temporary only.

Sweet looking setup BP! Are you going to put some cover over the top of that thing, too? It will make it a lot easier to stay hidden when the birds are working overhead.

No need for a cover. We hunted out of a blind that looked so much like this one that I should probably sue for copying my patent. Just stay low in the blind and limit movement and the birds will rarely flare.

Here is a brushing tip that I used on my similar blind. Find a stand of cattails (even though I dont see any in the photo) and cut them off using a pruning sheer or whatever down near the base. Bend them in half so both the top and the bottom are up and weave about 2 or 3 times into the welded wire, leaving about a foot to flutter in the wind. By doubleing them over you get two for the cut of one and it will add to your bulk faster. They will stay put a long time and as they dry, the lighter colored bottom end will just turn brown like everything else. Many of the individual cattails will last more than one season, obviously some of them will fall out over time.
