Default New advice on getting scratch out of tailgate from buddies dog

After an afternoon of dove hunting my buddies dog decided to jump up on the back of my truck and has put two nice paw prints with several scratches on it. Was wondering if anybody knows any magic products to get out the scratches. They don't appear to be too deep so I'm hoping some over the counter product along with some buffing may get it out. Anybody have any tips?

It adds character. Reminds me of my first lab. For some odd reason(I think he had a brain tumor),he would get up on the roof of the truck instead of riding in the bed. Anyway,my buddy and I go pheasant hunting in his brand new truck. My dog got up there and rode across a field spread eagle scratching his roof down to bare metal. That cost me. Many times,we would be driving down the road to the next field and all of a sudden my dog's head would appear above the windshield. Not sure how many farmers saw the truck from Omaha with a roof ornament driving around.

Sorry I can't comment on the scratches, but great story, Alex!

My most hated new truck/bad scratches story starts with a buddy and his stupid canoe. I think I'd better stop right there.

I've used 3M scratch remover before. It's a fine rubbing compound available at auto parts stores, I got mine at Advanced Auto. Look near the paint products, not the waxes and polishes. I was pretty happy with the results.

GS27, as seen on TV.

It all depends on the depth of the scratch, but this stuff may do the trick. I have used is successfully, and unsuccessfully, depending on the scratch.

Default polish

You'll probably need to use a variety of polishes. Sorry to say you probably will not be able to get rid of them completely however you will probably be able to eliminate a portion of them.

I was able to 'minimize' some scratches on my black mustang with a buffer and some polishing compound which (different textrures) and then finally some wax and it didn't take the scratches out but did tone them down.

What ever you do get/do put the polish on going across the scratch not with it.

Also if you can run your fingernail across it and can feel the scratch you probably won't get it out.
