Default Squirrels

I know people hunt them this time of the year through Dec. but my question is this, do most really eat them? If not, what do they do with them? Just curious because "just shooting" something doesnt seem right me.
I hear the are good for kids to learn on, since they require some patients and such. Any knowledge on this subject would be appreciated.

I haven't done any squirrel hunting since high school but they are tasty. Dredge in flower and brown both sides for a couple minutes. Throw in a crockpot with cream of mushroom soup and let them cook till the meat falls off the bones.

Mepps , the fishing lure maker, used to pay .25 cents per tail. Not sure if they do this anymore. They use the fur on their inline spinners.

I haven't hunted them in years, but yes, I ate them. Always fried them.

Oh SNAP! Who would have 1000+ tails to ship to Mepps? For the rest of us, only .13 per tail.

My friend who grew up in the Ozarks says his relatives had to stop eating scrambled squirrel brains and eggs because of the threat of mad squirrel disease.

In other news a CDC spokesperson today announced that contrary to prior releases it is now considered impossible to get Mad Squirrel Disease from eating properly cooked squirrel eggs. Persons are still advised against eating squirrel brains as they are so small they will likely go hungry.

More seriously, fried squirrel - delicious.

I say this with a light hearted laugh, but seriously, maybe we should start a "Nebraskan's against Squirrels" chapter and start a renewed emphasis on squirrel hunting and group our salt dried tails into one shipment. Make sure you follow the directions, a curled tail is worthless!!
