Personally, I'm not sold that it does work as it is supposed to at all. Not as much as washing the cheaper clothing and keeping that clothing in a air tight tub until using. I'm not sold that there is any difference. I think wind direction will determine more than anything. So to answer the question, I would guess it probably doesn't last very long at all b/c of the scent you put on that clothing when using it.

Does that Scent-Lok stuff need to be "recharged" as some scent free clothing does? If so,from the articles I've read, most dryers don't get hot enough to recharge the clothing to scent free. I think the stuff is more of a sales gimmick than anything else. I've never had any problems with deer catching scent of me and I don't really take wind direction into account.I put all my outerwear into a trash bag with some fresh earth discs or fox(or coon) urine dabbed on it a day or two before hunting. Then,I pour some fox/coon urine over my boots when I get fairly close to my stand.

I have never had a problem with deer winding me. I play the wind in my favor and don't worry about it. No scent lock, not air-tight tub, no special detergent, no coon urine, no nuthin.

I think that is a gimmick. For archery all I do is store my clothes in the offseason with some type of natural forage in a trash bag. Then when I go to use it to hunt I just spray scent away spray all over myself, and then put on one of those scent wafers on my hat. I still think the most important thing you can do is play the wind in your favor.

I think they may work to a point but I believe that deers can smell too good and its very hard to decieve.
I believe just using that wind helps out more than anything else.

personally i have used scent blocker and scent lock products, and i have had deer come out to a ield down wind of me and walk right down the field edge and walk past me and never know i was there. i think they work well and will continue to use them even if they only work half as good as they say that gives you a leg up on a deer in my opinion.i'm not downgrading regular camo. i am just saying that i have had success with carbon clothing.

I don't believe the carbon can be recharged by a regular dryer, so my guess is you may get one or two hunts at most before the carbon is useless. Some articles I have read believe the carbon is saturate with scent before you even have chance to use it at all. |

I had a really neat experience last year when I got out of my stand a littl early. I seen through the trees a deer coming. Ended up being a young 2X3. I stopped in the middle of the clover patch and stood still as could be. I syn, that deer kept coming toward me, up to 6ft. away. I could have reached out and poked him with the arrow. Was probably my most memorable hunt, and all I've ever done was wash my clothes in scent free wash and kept them in an air tight container. One thing I personally think helps is I walk through a thicket or two of cedars on the way to my stand. Just my opinion, but I don't think scent free clothing works any better than the stuff you put in your gas tank to improve mileage. |

if you are walking through thickets of cedar you are getting the smell of cedar on you and you aren't scent free. you are just using natures cover scent. i'm not here to aregue who is right or wrong, i just know what works for me. and what works for you is great too.

I read on a bowhunting site about a year ago where they made a claim that a clothes dryer will NEVER get hot enough to activate the stuff. They also did some testing with trailing dogs and they were able to find people wearing this stuff easily. I think it's a money making gimmic. Save your money and spend it on better arrows, heads and maybe a better bow if you need one. I've been shooting deer with a bow since 1974, and sure I've had some wind me but not nearly as many as the ones that have ended up in my freezer.

To some degree, scent is important. The problem i have with scent being such a big issue is, most of the deer in the eastern half of the state are exposed to human odor year round. Between farmers, hunters, trappers and fisherman, we keep them in the smell. Keep your clothes as odor free as possible by not smoking or putting gas in the truck on the way to the stand in your hunting clothes. You WILL stick out if you smell like a gas pump with an ashtray on top. I think movement is a bigger factor. You can always adjust your hunting technique to the wind. Movement will nail you everytime, now matter how you smell or which way the wind is blowing. Just my opinion. |

There are some old timers who will tell you that camo is a gimmick and that anything other than a flannel shirt and a pair of Carharts is unnecessary. I don't agree with that but to each their own. Like most of you all above I try to keep my clothes and gear, clean and odor free. There seems to be a lot more scent free products on the market and some are priced about the same as regular camo. I have tried some of these and I feel if the price is OK and the overall product fits my needs that any additional benefits I might get from the scent free tech is a bonus. Lets head over to Cabela's!!!!

Well, I'm not an "old timer" but I do know that deer will walk right up to you when you're wearing a bright orange vest and brown duck coveralls.
