Well, they didn't have the prarie ghost in yet in Sioux City Scheels. What about the brush pattern from Cabelas?

Default Camo

OBERT, You might want to check out Mossy Oak Brush. That's all I wear when I'm out west hunting deer and antelope in warm weather. It blends in real well with the grass in the sandhills or the grasslands. You'd be surprised how well it blends in the eastern part of the state. Might want to give it a try. Hope this helps you out.

Thanks mulie, that is what I meant was the mossy oak brush. Was just looking at it in the Cabelas mag. and just typed Cabelas brush. I was thinking about ordering that, not sure if I'll get back to shcheels for the prarie ghost or not. For as dry as it is here, might be just the thing for hunting here this fall. Things are pretty brown and dry, and will be unless we get rain soon.

Default Brush

obert, One thing I like about the Brush camo is, there is a better selection of clothes for it. I'm not a small guy, so it's kinda hard finding clothes in some of the other patterns. As far as being dry, it does'nt look good. Might be wearing brown camo opening day of bow season. Stuff is starting to burn around here. Good luck out west. Wish i could go with you. Love hunting those lopers!!!

Default Maps

The last time i was out there, we got maps of the grasslands right at Fort Robinson. They were printed by the Forest Service. The map was of the entire grassland area, with all of the private land marked on it. You can find everything you need on the USDA Forest Service website. They also have an office in Chadron. Hope this helps!!!

I don't go out for any length of time anymore without a Camelbak hydration system. You can get camo models for hunting, and all of Camelbak's products are virtually indestructible and leakproof. Canfield's in Omaha has a huge selection, as well as some camo hydration packs from other brands, too. Lets you carry a day's water on your back and sip from a hose so you don't have to mess with a water bottle. Since it's so easy to get a drink (just lift the hose and take a swig) you'll drink more often, which is good for you! I thought they were gimmicky when they first came out years ago, but now I own 4 or 5 in different sizes, and I absolutely love 'em.

OK, another ?

2 guys right now and we need a place to stay. So far the hotels we've looked at are between 50-80 bucks a night. I've got a park permit on the rig, anyone know off hand what the cabins at the SP are? I have to get the list from Bo on which hotels in/near Crawford he check out so I don't know which he has looked at of yet. Will post them when I get them from him, we maybe missing some.

Thanks.

Default Cabins

Don't know if this was broght up yet but, you might want to check into the cabins at Fort Robinson. They are the old officers barracks. Alot of room with kitchens. Last time we stayed in them, they were very reasonable.

Sorry, that's what I meant by cabins at the state park. Anyone know off hand what they are a night? Good deal for two people or need a bigger group?

I can find the info on them, but not the pricing.

Don't know if you want to camp or not, but you could camp at toadstool park. Camped there this spring and it is awesome! Could also spend some time exploring the toadstools.

Camping on the grasslands when the weather is nice is a truely wonderful experience, I absolutely love it.

Camping on the grasslands in 105 degree heat or during a 4 day rain event will make you consider taking up golf and knitting.

We figured being we are going early like we are it might not be the greatest thing to be tenting. I still kind of want to camp, but the fellow I'm going with really doesn't want to. His idea sounds better, it's just mine sounds free (or pretty close too it.)

Still waiting to hear back on the price of the cabins, hoping to hear soon.

What are the Lodge Rooms like? I see they have twin beds for only $45 a night. Anyone know of them?

Thanks.

Anyone stayed in them or seen them? I just can't seem to find pictures of them or anything. Will call out there this afternoon and ask about them too. Thanks.

I have stayed in them before. They are very nice as long as you keep in mind their historical purpose. Mostly they have hard wood floors, a couple of rooms, kitchen, bath, very much like an older house. For a hunting trip, they are more than adequate.

Keep in mind the game and parks rents these as cabins to thousands of people a year. They can't be that bad.

Didn't think they would be that bad, might be the best route if we can get one. For $45 can't beat that, better than a hotel room I would say.

Thanks YL.
