I can't wait, really excited about just getting out for 5 days and doing nothing but hunting, sleeping and relaxing. To be able to take an antelope would just be a bonus.

I could'nt agree more! I have had 4 days off since the beggining of March and dont see many more ahead 'till Sept. In fact I just came in from the garage where I was cutting materials for tomarrows 12hr+ day! At least work dies off during deer season!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't done a thing this summer. Got the the river downstream a couple times, once even this week. Otherwise not much, but I'm getting a lot of stuff done around the house. Wife says I'll be rewarded this fall. Do you think when it comes time she'll hold true to that? If not I'm going fishing tonight.

You may get a hold of a cow pie but there are plenty of dirt clods, rocks and wood lying around most waterholes. Bring some painted wood stakes and mark off your range that way instead.

Well, looks like it will be 2 of us going, unless anyone else wants to go along. Have a blind for each of us, maps, a little help from someone out there, maps, boots, decoy, and I think that is about all. Just need to buy that range finder, maybe some different color camo and some new leather gloves. If anyone wanted to go, it will be the last weekend in August. Pm, reply, email.

I would also advise you to get a pair of knee pads and elbow pads for any kind of spot and stalk. If you dont already practice shooting your bow with those leather gloves on. Take a pair of tweezers along for all the cactus thorns too....... Oh! and a mirror so you can see to get the thorns out of your ass from when you try to roll over and forget to check for cactus!

i bought a bushnell rangefinder at cabelas for 149.....i use it right now for cheating at golf and ive hit drives and put it back on guys on the tee box and easily got readings up to 325...ive also had no problem picking up trees at 400-500 yards....pretty affordable and plenty of distance for bowhunting and the nine days of rifle season

You might want to invest in a pair of light weight boots. With western hunting at that time of year it will be warmer, and you may do alot of walking. Not necessary, but makes the hunt a little easier. I would highly recommend nikon for a rangefinder. They can range through the netting on ground blinds. People say you may not need the netting, however my experience has been that the game still acts like the see movement or that something is not right and are a little on edge. The nikon is a little more expensive, but it could be used for rifle hunting with its longer range. For something cheap I would just get the bottom of the line bushnell. Don't forget to practice at longer distances and good luck.

We went the weekend after 9-11. Take lots of water, a decoy and start getting in shape now if you are going to stalk at all. Good luck.

Thanks for all the information guys. Not too much longer now. Just had to add something to my list though. All my camo is set up for here, need to get some brown and tan. Figure it is pretty dry out that way.

I use prairie ghost. I thought the pattern was better before they upgraded it about 3 years ago, but it still works fine. You can find it at http://www.prairieghost.com/prairie.asp

looks like Basspro still has some items, but they are running low and dont have every size in every item. do a google on ghost camo and bass pro has paid to have their name come up first.

Make sure to practice shooting in your hunting clothes just to make sure there is no problems. Wouldn't want to be at full draw on a buck and not be able to shoot or something.

I got my prairie ghost at Scheels in Lincoln. I think they carry both the Prairie Ghost and the Mossy Oak's version, but I can't remember the specific name. Good luck out there, I am sure it will be a lot of fun. I might be going myself towards the end of September, but I think I am more interested in chasing mule deer. I am going up to South Dakota to rifle hunt antelope, so I figure that I can concentrate more on trying to get a mulie.
