Default Gun Work

Does anyone know of a place to get a gun overhauled at, that does great work? My father has a red label, from the early eighties, which the stock cracked last season. It is his favorite gun by far and his birthday is coming up. I would like to get it fixed for him. Along with fixing the crack I would like to get the gun worked over from top to bottom making it as "new" as possible. Lastly I was wondering if anyone has any opinions or experiences in adding choke tubes to a gun that didn't originally come with them? I live in Omaha and would be willing to drive a couple of hours for a great gunsmith. Thanks in advance.

I highly recommend :

The Old Fontenelle Gun Shop, Bellevue

or

Money Makers Gun Craft, Omaha

I've had many guns in to both of these shops. Old Fontenelle just repaired the cracked stock on one of my Ithaca O/U's earlier this year. They did great work as always. Chuck and the guys are tops.

You really can't go wrong taking it to Money Makers either, they've done a few tricky repairs for me there as well.

There's a gun shop in Papillion, off 84th Street. I don't remember the name of it, but they do good work at a reasonable cost.

For a project like this I would take it to the Tradeing Post In Crofton. That guy and his wife have been in the gun buisness for decades. They are actually members of the NRA board. They do great work and know everything there is to know about all guns. And are reasonably priced. At least give them a call.

When did OFGS re-open? The last time that I was down there, they were selling off a ton of stuff so they could close. It's been a couple years, though.

I'll second Al's work, the best you'll find...I will have to double check w/him but I believe he does the refinishing work for Crofton Trading Post as well as most every other gunsmith shop around here(Northeast) all the way to Lemars, Iowa...You'll get a much better price without the middleman, as well...they almost double the cost from what he's told me. But it's best never good to rush if you want perfection, regardless of who you take it to. A deadline like that impending birthday is not something you even wanna bring up to Al, he won't rush his work!

Al does some great work but it you are looking at a time frame I would take the gun else where. Not sure where your location but there are more then enough qualified gunsmiths in the southeast area of the state.

Doc carlson in Crofton is good. Ill second that one as well. He is a factory warranty repair for Weatherby, and a couple other brands as well. And Im thinking his son owns Carlson Choke Tubes?
