Default My best friend in the world passes on......

Well came home to spend the weekend with my grandpa, dad, and boys since all the women have wedding showers all weekend for my sister who gets married next week.

Got a call at 7:20 Am that my grandpa had just passed on peacefully. He had cancer in his bones and was in a lot of pain so in some odd way this really was a blessing that his sufferings were over.

He had fought many battles including Pearl Harbor, Guadacanal, and even Midway but the ***** we know in life called cancer finally got the best of him.

He was for sure my best friend I ever had. Tought me everything I knew about fishing, hunting, and life in general. Ill never forget him and am really proud to know that my 2 boys got the privelage to know their "grandpa great".

My last words to him were "Ill catch some fish for you." as we shared a grin. In stead of spending time in person with him today the boys and I are headed to the lake to spend time with him in spirit. I know that first fish will be a good one and he will be smiling down from heaven with the ever present smile he had as my grandma is holding him once again.

Dont life pass you by guys and never forget how short life can be. Cherish every moment you can with family and friends and never have any regrets.

We love you grandpa. You will never be forgot.

My sympathies to you, Ty. I'm very sorry to hear about the passing of your grandfather. You and your boys will carry part of him with you always, everytime you go out. You and your family are in my prayers.

thanks a lot guys for the kind words.

Found out yesterday that a full military memorial is going to be held with taps, 21 gun salute, and a presentation of the flag. Af the end of the ceremony the flag will be presented to me, the only grandson and one of his best pals.

I dont think ive ever been more honored.

Was total bliss being on that water yesterday morning after hearing about this news. Fishing is always a great outlet for a stress reliever.

A full military memorial is in order - Pearl Harbor, Guadacanal, and Midway. Amazing... What an honor to be presented with the flag, Ty!

My gramps served as a volunteer firefighter for years. At the grave site, the fire department issued a last call for Otto Abresch. All the emergency pagers worn by current volunteers at the funeral, went off with his last call. Pretty touching. I can't imagine a 21 gun salute.

Here's to your grandpa, Harry Newill

Ty, I'm sitting in front of the computer eating steak, eggs, and biscuits with tears in my eyes. You're remembrance of GP is the same as mine. Pioneers. Solid as the earth. They had the love and patients to share their lives with us. They shared times and experiences we could not imagine or understand. I've lost my GP, dad, brother, and a number of others in my family. Vietnam, car Wrecks, accidents, old age, you name it. It just encourages us to catch the moment and enjoy life as it is dealt to us. We're coming to your area in about a week. PM me if you're interested in spending the afternoon on Willow with us. Big boat. Bring a youngster or two.

Sorry again about your loss.

BB

Sorry to hear about your families lost but great words by you that everyone should remember that life is short and do not take it for granted. I had my grandfather pass when I was in college. He was the one who taught me to fish, hunt, history, you name it. He was in WWI and had lots of stories to tell. But in college I always seemed "TOO BUSY" to go see him even though he was a hour away. So I was very mad with myself that I could have spent more time with him before he left us. As Ty said and Live like you do not know what tomorrow brings and don't miss out with your family.

Ty, No words can ease the hurt as you well know. But the great memories you have will last you a lifetime and that's a blessing.

Enjoy them and share them with your kids. It's all about passing on the family sporting heritage to your kies. In that way your Grandpa will live on forever.

When my boys and I go hunting or fishing, we always take time to talk about our memories of my father and the trips we got to take with him.
I carry his trout knife on most of my adventures far and wide.
That's my way of having him along with me..

Sorry about your loss. Lost my dad who was my fishing buddy in December. Have been fishing a few times this spring & know he was with me. Sure your Grandpa will be with you too. God bless.

That kind of stuff is always tuff.... My G-Pa passed awhile back, if I know anything about catching a catfish, it came from him. In his opinion, no other fish was worth catching. Everytime I catch a catfish, no matter what size, I still think of him. Awhile back, I caught my best channel cat, 35" long, without thinking I held it up and shouted at the setting sun, "What do you think of this one papa!!" I dont think grandpas ever really go away, they just spread out a little. Perhaps it is our only chance at immortality, to pass on what we hold dear to our grand kids, so maybe someday after we are dead and gone, a young man will hoist a big fish into his boat and shout up to me.

Eats,

I felt this same way after catching the first fish that day. Your words really will live with me forever to know that im not the only one out there.

Grandpas always live with us and most of us will be one some day.
