Im looking to build a raised box style blind for deer hunting. Does anyone know where you can get plans or have built one and have plans they are willing to share. Thanks in advance.

I am, but mine are boxes from a truck repair shop my uncle works at. Large boxes truck tranny's/parts come in. With a little modification they work great. I would think you could google it and find some sort of plans for them.

Default Box Blinds

Do you want to make a stationary or portable blind? How high do you want to be off the ground? I made a portable box blind last year. I pull it from place to place with my pickup or atv. When you are sitting in it, eye level is about ten feet off the ground.

Mulie

That sounds like about what I want to build. I would like it to be portable enough to where a few guys could load it on a trailer and make it easy to move. 10 ft off the ground sounds about right Im sure a person could make it as high as you wanted. Did you get plans from somewhere or did you just make it up? What is the ballpark cost for something like you made? Thanks

I've built a couple. There pretty simple. Just need some material for a frame and some ply wood for the box.

I used 2" steel pipe for my frame and welded it together. I wouldn't reccommend that unless you have a free supply of steel pipe (like me) or have plenty of money to spend as steel is extremely expensive right now.

No I don't have a free supply of steel pipe. But I bet that made a study blind. Mulie, I will make sure and look for those pictures.

Thanks

I made one and my buddy also made one. My advice is to make it no smaller then 4x4x6. Going 4x4 will allow you to tip it into a truck box between wheel wells. If taller then 6', make it tall enough to stand up in. It is nice to be able to stretch out. You can buy EZ Brakets for like $70 for 4 of them. These will make it very easy to put it up in the air using 4x4 posts. My buddy went with 8' posts. With just the two of us we set it in his Dodge on its side, put the legs in the brackets and tipped it up. Also making the windows as wide as possible will keep you from having blind spots. Put in a full size door, it's worth it. Just put a window in it. Insulate with foam, not so much for keeping heat in but it reallys helps deaden the sound. You'll want at least one shelf below windows and I also put a couple above windows for more storage. Get a portable buddy heater with the hose kit and you'll be comfortable on the coldest of days. I had many deer with in feet of my blind so the heater burning wasn't a problem. Origionally I had plexiglass windows hinging up on the outside. I later changed them to tinted plexi glass hinging up on the inside. You could operate them much quieter inside. Throw in a swivling office chair and your set. We screw in a 3 foot anchor directly under the blind and put a ratchet strap from the blind to the anchor. We both had our blinds blow over in 05' with 1 foot long anchors. I guess 40 mph gust is the tipping point! LOL

Sounds great. I don't know any cure for the anticipation of deer season. Lots of the outdoor channel works for a while but not a complete cure.

I think I got just the thing for you guys. It will be on the market by this fall. Emagine this, a scissors lift blind on a four wheeler. You park the four wheeler where ever you want, put out the out riggers and raise the blind.
A guy I work with just invented it and is getting the patten, shoud be some for sale by this fall. Right now it goes 12' but he wants to extend it to 14'. I have no idea what he will charge for one. I will keep you updated if you all want but might need reminded.

Not quite, but I'm sure you could mount your gun on a swivel up there.

Sounds like a blind attached to the four wheelers might work for rifle hunters. I keep my ride plenty far away from my stands though. The only reason I take one in the area would be to retrieive the deer. Interesting invention, I have no doubt it will sell pretty good to certain groups of hunters.
