Was out with a friends son yesterday hunting rabbits, and came accross this 2-1/2 to 3 year old buck. It had been there a while, I am assuming he was shot durring rifle season. This deer had some great potential in the next year or two.

Could have died from anything, but bets are a rifle. If that makes you sick, try finding 5 like that within a mile of your ground.

What makes you think it was shot by a riffle hunter? If it had been there for quite a while I am assuming the coyotes had eaten almost everything. Therefore you would not be able to tell what killed it. heck it could have died from anything....infection from a poorly placed arrow, internal damage from being hit by a car, attacked by coyotes, illness, ect. Ma nature can be very brutal. I agree it sucks but don't just go pointing fingers at gun hunters. By the way I bow hunt and riffle hunt so I'm not biased either way.

If it was shot by a gun hunter there's a good chance he has even sicker. Probably couldn't find the deer, or maybe it ran onto someone else's property and he didn't want to trespass. Something that has been beaten to death on this board, he may have actually been doing the legal thing.

I am assuming it is a hunter of some sort. There was nothing to determin that it was a gun that killed it. There was not arrow or broadhead in the area of the dead deer. It looked like he laid down under some brush and died there. I am the only one who has bow hunted our ground withing in the quarter section. There are people who surround our area that rifle hunt and shoot the deer as soon as they step onto their ground. I was the only one who rifled hunted our ground that shot a deer. I am trying to see if anyone in our hunting club had shot at a deer, but the only other person who rifle hunted our ground has a tendensy to lie... Again I am just assuming. Again it just sucked because he had potential to be a nice deer once he got some mass and taller.

Yeah, thats what happened.
Could of been anything, that deer may have traveled a half mile or more after being legally shot and bedded down and died. It happens. Bummer it could not have been harvested.

I am giving him his last respect and putting him up on our cabin wall after I bleach his skull out. I am pretty sure he is the younger brother of the deer I shot this year. The deer I shot is my avatar.

So now it was a road hunter? Just step back a second an think about all the ways deer can die in the wild. I know that there are some bad eggs out there that shoot from the road and break all sorts of laws. However, I would like to think that the majority of hunters are respectful of others and do things the right way. Yeah, maybe that deer was shot by a road hunter and it walked off and died. That would suck and I really hope that didn't happen. However, this forum is full of great guys that do things the right way and by suggesting that a rifle hunter killed this deer you are just upsetting people.
Here is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. I found a buck on one of our properties last year. It was a 1/2 mile from any road and I assumed someone had shot it and it got away. I told my dad about it and he said he had seen that buck two days before with his leg stuck in the fence and he had been attacked by coyotes and was dead. I found the buck only about 15 yards from the fence so basically the coyotes just pulled him out of the fence and finished eating him. Like I said before, nature can be brutal. Don't jump to conclusions. |

Yes obviously there are many ways the buck could of died. Hit by a car, disease, coyotes, a poacher, fences. I was just stating most poaching cases are also roadhunting cases. That is a shame the buck didnt even have a chance.

OK guys no more arguing over something that really could have been anything!
Seriously it could have been AIDS, cancer, lion attack, poached with a slingshot, etc. 10 billion ways to die.......... choose one. My point is there is no need to point fingers since it could have been anything and its not a rare occasion to find a dead deer. Ive found many. I know I have lost 2 deer with my rifle back in my teens that I never did find. Never did find it and it may have lived or died 5 miles away. Yes I felt sick and worked my tail off trying to locate them but hey thats a part of hunting.

Finding a dead deer is a shame, especially one that is magnificent as this one. However to speculate anything negative is plain wrong as there is no evidence to support any method in which it died. It's dead and there is nothing more to add other a possible "damn."
