think about converting our old (unused anymore) 2 stall horse trailer to a portable deer blind. Any thoughts? to me the size and the portability seems perfect. Are there any suggestions as to things you have inside your blind that are a must have??

Maybe carpet the floor so it's quiet when moving your feet or sliding your bucket or stool around.

mesh window screens and small murder holes to shoot out of, window screens make a big difference i think when hunting out of a ground blind, i like the idea of carpeting the floor to keep it quiet also.

I would make sure it was carpeted or insulated all around. The metal would sure make any sound a loud sound.

Plus, being metal,it's gonna be colder than crap too if it ever gets cold outside. Maybe even spray glue some 2" insulation on the walls/ceiling.Alex |

all construction site left-overs--- plywood,2x4s,a end roll of tyvek,4x4x10 dunnage from a mnf co for the base and sleds (used 2 on each leg ) old thermo windows (just the part that cranks out ) destined for the dump (put a 2x 8 at top and bottom of opening w/trim stick at top, drill 2 holes for bolts (just stick a 3'' bolt in there at bottom to secure when your not there) you need the windows 1st to make the holes about the same size as the window sash and sit in chair to see were -or how high the window will function best ( to see and shoot out of when sitting in a chair) make a trap door in wall or floor corner 4 entry, got carpet from scraps from a new house or old carpet (the deer dont care ) and mixed up a muddy/ color of paint from my stash /spray painted weed/ grass all over . we made it all in the garage ,erected base on trailer, screwed walls on when we got to farm ,and made the roof in 2- pieces screw it on ,then find something like tin or rubber to seal the roof or it will rot. cost= mayby 40 bucks o- and ask or borrow some willing kids to help you build it! we had a ball! my twins are equil partners , id be lost without em!!!!!!!!!!!

I needed something quick this fall and didn't really want to set up another tree stand. So I came up with this. I call it deer stand with attached garage.
Before I put the ground blind on top I put in an old desk chair. Nothing like leaning back in a comfortable chair with armrests, and wheels so you can roll around. Just be sure you put down carpet first so you don't make noise when moving the chair. ![]() There is a trap door in one corner so you can get down to where the 4 wheeler is. Let's you go down and get rid of some of the coffee you've been drinking without being seen.

[/IMG]![]() ![]() change of plans, not going to mess with old horse trailer, my father in law gave us this trailer that he had out to the farm. Has not used it since cleanup for the 1980 grand island tornadoes. took it home (slowly) wil obviously have to do some bearing maintenance as it's sat for a long time, tires need some love too. But it pretty much has the basis for being framed out, im 6'2" and i can almost stand straight up in it. Now comes the planning part for siding, roof, windows etc.... good december project. ill keep you updated and would appreciate any thoughts or ideas. |
