My six year old (7 in two weeks) is coming with me for his first deer hunt ever tomorrow... We are blessed to have access to a small track of private riverbottom ground to hunt tomorrow and we both have high hopes... So tomorrow, it's game on and we're taking a buck, doe, basket rack, spike, 2x2 that presents us with the opportunity for us to take a deer tomorrow... I truly hope to be posting pics tomorrow, we'll see if he sleeps at all tonight...
Wish us luck ![]() |

Got my deer tonight, and I loved showing it to my two boys (3 and 5). It's so cool to see that look in their eyes as they touch the antlers. All three of us took our picture together with it. Probably going on my desk at work. I've got a perfect place for a ground blind in mind, and I'm hoping to actually take the 5 yr. old out next season. I think that's awesome when people take their kids hunting and fishing. There are somethings that kids just can't learn sitting in a classroom.
Ty - Pretty cool to see your two grinning from ear to ear. It's all about passing it on. |

Thanks Everyone, my little man hunted his tail off yesterday, we spent 4.5 hours in the woods in the morning, had a shot at a very nice full bodied deer, but never got the shot, had the safety off, but it was a neck shot between the trees and I could not see his head or rump so I had to pass, just couldn't take the shot...
Had another quick chance at a smaller buck, again, had the safety off, but when I finally got in position on him he spooked and bolted into the thick underbrush and lost him... We finished the evening hunting a picked corn and bean field with a couple very nice treelines and didn't see anything with fur on it but a really nice flock of canadas came in and circle us three times and lit in the field, where we have permission to goose hunt on so we may be doing that this weekend because my deer hunting I think is over unless we go Muzzleloading... He had a great time, was a total trooper and I truly enjoyed our time in the field together... He also learned a valuable lesson about not taking the shot if it's not safe or unethical and that you don't always bag your game or fill your tag... |
