Default Check Stations Question

The last few years the quick shop in my small hometown has been a check-in station. It has been great because it brings in business for them, they had a big buck contest, and you could always go in and talk to guys and find out what they had been seeing. I just found out today that they were not a check in station this year. I asked why they were not doing it anymore and the cashier told me they just got paid a couple of weeks ago from last season. Is there a shortage at the game and parks for paying for this? Or is the person in charge of paying the check in stations not doing his or her job? I'm not taking shots at the game and parks but I really miss my check in station. I just want to find out if what the cashier told me was the truth. I don't blame the quick shop for not doing it anymore if they didn't get paid in a timely manner. Anyone have any info on this?

It doesn't seem like good business if that was the case with them not getting paid on time. However, I would think that doing it anyway would bring in a ton of extra business for the gas station that would make it worth it regardless of when game and parks pays out. That sucks though for your sake. We are lucky, the two places that we normally check in at are both up and running like normal this year.

I would agree that the gas station would get so much business from being a check in station I wouldn't even worry about getting paid for it. That place was packed on Saturdays and Sundays during season in the past. Oh, well now I just have to drive about 15 miles to check in my deer. I guess it could be worse.

When I submit items for payment through state accounting, they are almost always paid within 30 days. I would suspect that a late request would result in late payment.

Check in stations have to request to be paid for their service? I don't really understand that as I don't have to ask my employer to pay me. Could you clarify?

Do you randomly send payments to companies, or wait until they send you a bill for their goods/services? Do you turn in a time sheet to claim how many hours you worked before you get paid? I know I have had to turn in a time sheet at every job I have worked since age 14--and if I didn't, I wouldn't get paid.

As a taxpayer/feepayer I would certainly hope that there is an accounting of how much is owed to a vendor by the state before they cut them a check.

Note, I know nothing about this particular situation, so I really don't know the deal, but I do know it isn't normal for someone to have to wait a year to get a check from the state--once the paperwork requesting payment has been submitted.

Thanks for the clarification. And no I don't turn in a time card. I'm on salary.
