Human body found by hunters in Pierce County, Neb.

Associated Press - November 16, 2009 11:25 AM ET

PIERCE, Neb. (AP) - Authorities say an autopsy is planned on a human body found by deer hunters in northeast Nebraska.

A news release from Pierce County Attorney Verlyn Luebbe (LOO-bee) says the body was found late Saturday morning. The Nebraska State Patrol and four local law enforcement agencies are participating in the follow-up investigation.

A woman who answered the phone in his office on Monday morning said no other information is being released for now.

At least this girl's family will get some closure. Sounds like a bad deal all around.

Where, in the article, is it mentioned it was a girls body that was found?

I am sure Obert saw this on another forum.

Omaha.com - The Omaha World-Herald: Metro/Region - Body brings Norfolk family closure

A body found in Pierce County on Saturday is believed to be that of missing Norfolk woman Lacey Anderson.

Pierce County Attorney Verlyn Luebbe wouldn't confirm the gender or possible identity of the victim Monday morning. Family members have said they are awaiting DNA tests for official confirmation.

Anderson, 19, had been missing since Aug. 23. Family members who had started a Facebook page titled "Help Find Lacey!" changed the page to "RIP Lacey Anderson" over the weekend.

Luebbe said deer hunters discovered the body late Saturday morning.

"We were wishing we would have a happy ending, but now we have closure," said Karen Schmode of Battle Creek, Lacey's grandmother.
She said Lacey's disappearance took a toll on her.

"I wasn't living. I couldn't think without thinking about where she was," Schmode said. "It's a miracle she's been found."

The Nebraska State Patrol, Pierce and Madison County Sheriff's Offices, Norfolk and Pierce Police Departments worked at the scene following the discovery of the body.

An autopsy is planned and the investigation continues.

Anderson was last seen at a Norfolk apartment, where she lived with her mother.

According to court documents, Anderson had provided information to law enforcement regarding several different crimes and individuals involved. She was identified in other criminal cases as a witness. She also may have obtained methamphetamine shortly before her disappearance.

At the time of her disappearance, Anderson had faced sentencing on a revocation of probation for driving under the influence of alcohol and on felony charges involving a drive-by shooting. A warrant had been issued for her arrest after she failed to appear for her court dates.

"I want her to be remembered as a beautiful, sweet girl who happened to fall into friends of the wrong kind," Schmode said. "We will miss her and life will never be the same without her."

Anyone with information about her disappearance should call law enforcement officials in Pierce or Madison county.

Very sad story.

Yes, sorry. I was sent the facebook link in the search for her, then seen it changed to RIP. I had heard this morning from back at home they were pretty sure it was this young lady.

I don't know this story to well other than a few tidbits I've heard on the news... Are they suspecting foul play or was this a suicide or overdose or???

Not trying to be morbid, just wondering what they are saying...

It saddens me to no end that people (and I use that term lightly) can take a precious life as if theirs is more inmportant; especially knowing that it was not what she did; although we all make mistakes; but what they did!!! They will hopefully get what they deserve and if the justice system won't do it, then the good lord will!!!!! I sincerely hope that the "people" that are responsible for this haneous crime will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law!!! The saddest part of this whole thing( as much as we know as a public) is that we all make mistakes; we are the ones who are supposed to be responsible for our own actions, and the loss of a life won't change the horrible things they did!!! I hope that if these criminals are found guilty and not sentenced to death, that their life in prison is worse than death!! I am very familiar with the norfolk area,as I lived there for several years and the community is strong!!! Don't let this get by without a fight!! This could be any one of our children!!!!To the family....tears are flowing as I write this! There is nothing I can say or do that will change how you feel. But I think that in her HONOR we need to come together and make sure this can NEVER happen again. Where was her protection when she was going to help the police???? Now, noone will be willing to come forward to stop these crimes!!! I am only going by what I have heard on the news so I appologize if my comments are not accurate to this case. The good Lord has HER in his arms, as the criminals responsible will never feel! GOD BLESS!
