Why do some guys hang deer from their hind legs and others from the neck? Is there a reason or just how you do it? I have always hung mine from the hind legs. No reason just how I was taught I guess.

I like hanging deer from the back legs. If blood is going to pool anywhere while hanging I would prefer that it pool in the front legs and neck rather than the better eating hind quarters. Whether or not this makes a difference or not I have no idea.

It's easier to pull the hide when hanging it from the neck. From an aging stand point it doesn't make any difference to hang from the legs or neck.
It's nothing more than a personal preference.

we always hang from the hind legs. We seem to have an easier time from keep the animal from swinging around while we are skinning and quartering. Have helped guys who did it by the antlers, but you just about gotta have somebody holding them the whole time so you aren't dancing with them.

I would have to agree for the most part that it is a personal preference.
Most times I will hang does by the neck/head, but I like to hang the bucks from the hind legs if I am caping them out for a mount.

Last deer I did I did it from the neck and took the hide off that way. I was also able to debone the rear legs as it was hung up. Looked weird when it was done for it was a skeleton minus the front legs. |
